The great thing about canoes is that you can harvest the crop that the ramblers can't reach. :)
Sorry about the awful photo - my camera broke so this was taken with my phone. Had I spent more time I could've had buckets full of the things. (From the Exeter canal if you're interested.)

Brambles are funny old plants. All through the winter, spring n summer its a pain in the arse plant, ever creeping where you don't want it and trying to trip you up or entangle you in its grip.
Then come autumn is suddenly our best friend.
Not a great year for them down here, but not a bad one either.. I have spotted some good sloes about, but we had to cut down our best blackthorn :0(
hope you kept some of the wood!

I was working down at the preppers place today and I thought of you Jonny ;)
I remembered the pile of would you had from my last visit but even you would be impressed by the wood stack that this guy has. Saw my first blackberries down at his place too, seems to be bugger all here at the moment. Even lost all my apples this year as the wind took some and the jackdaws had the others.

Blackberries were up earlier in the summer over here. I was working in the Adirondack mountains surveying damage to power lines after a storm and was actually getting paid to hike when blackberries were up and some early blueberries were ready too. The blueberries weren't very sweet yet, but they were still good. I got to hike through enormous blueberry patches with a few blackberries scattered around, and once or twice, I dropped into bracken nearly as tall as me (and I'm 6ft 1in.)
Berries are done over here...oh well.
