A stew when Im at home but out in the woods I loveto roast the rabbit over an open fire.

I'll be headin down to the park tomorrow lookin for a few more forks . Would go today but we are in the middle of a hellofa storm mate. Will post a couple of pics of Cattys that I build in here.

that is by far the finest natural gypsy tabbed yew fork ive ever seen,infact its the only one natural yew forks are very very rare!

heres my board cut yew,the problem with board cuts is they break with one fork strike,the naturals dont!

Thankyou for sayin so Fish It was a joy to make .. Just sorta made itself I only held the knife...That is a beautiful lookin Catty bud.
I was messin about today with the one I made and tore a coke can in half with 5 shots I put a catchbox and a tarp at the end of the hallway and shoot the Catapults. Roughley 50feet or so.... so Its gonna be a great wee bunny buster.

Well, well, somebody sent me a bunch of survival goodies that arrived in the mail today.
Ammong the them the rubber bands for a catty. Looks very much like the ones on top there Al.

As a kid, I never had access to that kind of rubber bands. So I have no idea how to attach them. I get a liitle wiser by looking at your pictures Al, but could you describe the process for me?
Need something to do while waiting for my date with the surgeon....and I do not wan't to visit an eye surgeon as well...

I haven't done it myself yet, my "catty" or slingshot as we say here in the US is in the very slow construction stage now; but there are a couple of really good instructional videos that I found on You Tube:

Lots of info about catties and construction, band attachment etc on here http://www.melchiormenzel.de/

!2mm steel balls are good, so are M8 or M10 steel nuts for hunting at sensible ranges and with suitable bands. You can get .44 lead balls fairy easily in the Uk - but not cheap. Lead is excellent for hunting.

I use 9mm steel untill I can get myself a Mold for lead I have a fair amount of sea fishing waights that I want to melt down and use as Catty ammo. I dont go sea fishing any more since I lost my brother to a freak wave off Talyor's Tip about 12 years ago now. so all that lead is just sitting in a bag under the bench waiting to be used.

the 9mm steel will do the job . I hunt the same way with the catty as I do with the Air rifle HEAD SHOTS ONLY!!!
If ye dont think ye can make the shot hold fire and wait :D

But then my slingshot will only be used for fun shooting at soda cans...

Gould tip about the M10 steel nuts. Steel balls are one of the items I have to order online...nuts I can find everywhere...:ashamed:

Al, the lead sea fishing weights are ideal, that's what I used for shot 'plinking' years ago. In the workshop
using my camping stove, using an old soup tin cleaned out, with the opened serated edge turned both
edges inwards tight enough not to break off & as not to cut my hands, this worked as a handle for pouring,
bashed the tin edge to a near fine pouring spout, then for a mould, I poured the molten liquid lead into
the centre hole of a pair of pliers, pliers are insulated warmed over the stove before pouring the lead
saves cooling on contact or using a improvised ladle to measure amounts, the lead shot comes out a
slightly rounded end with a opposite centre bevelled with two sharp pointed ends,
Ok it's very 'Heath Robinson' but very effective if you haven't got a proper rounded lead
BB mould & DEADLY!! :o

Effective hunting range is for me 20 yards max and 15 or less preferred. Getting that close is a challenge.........
Others may be more proficient or have more powerful cattys.

The challange is in the stalk mate :) Im with you the closer the better 20 yards is my limit although I could hit them at 30 but I dont like to take the chance of wounding the rabbit or bird . One shot one kill.

my advise would to be to buy a lee cavity ball mold,in .440 ,makes perfect shot every time .

when i was making them to sell mrs fish and i with 3 molds could make a thousand shot per hour,our best ever was 1200,dont need to make any now i just go out the back garden and i find them everywhere.
Couple of weeks a go i saw some detectorists in the field in front of our house,i went over as ime interested in that sort of thing when i asked if they found much they all were quite exoted ,they had found hundreds of musket and pistol shot,funnily enough all .44 and .50 cal ,ruined theyre day when i told em where thyed come from ,they thought theyed found a civil war battle site! lol

used to have a factory local to here made Rods/Reels/Air Rifles etc..I bought a
catty with arm support/rubber tube bands off them sometime ago very powerful
piece of kit. Used to have one of their Steel Catty's with black square rubber bands
another great catty certainly suppliers of very good quality merchandise.
They also supply Ammo Moulds.
