View Full Version : How burls are formed..

I was splitting logs when I found this log with amazing patterns under the bark. I had seen it before, but never as much as this. I asked the guys on the Bodgers forum what caused it and it seems its the cambium layer under the bark forming random patterns that end up as burls in the tree..

Oh man thats amazing!! ye should sand it down and put some oil on it It will look fantastic :D

Great pic Jonny.
I was carving a scoop from a burr at Spoonfest, last month.
E,r isn't burr the American name:confused2:

"Burl" is ;). To be honest, I've heard both over here, but usually we think of "burr" as the wire edge on a blade during the sharpening process.

Not on topic but to suddenly see Al's avatar in these posts (No. 2) always catches me off guard and is a great reminder of a fantastic guy, also to live life to the max
