I've been thinking for a while now about my black guy lines for my DD tarp and how difficult they are to spot at night (even with a torch). Even under a leafy canopy they can be trick when it's day time.

I was wondering what other members do.

Have you bought fluorescent guys?

Have you found an easily detachable device that glows in the dark?

Do you take the "don't care" approach and risk a trip?

Do you make sure you're in bed before it gets dark? (yeah - right!)

So, what ingenious devices have you guys thought up/manufactured/applied?

Looking forward to yet another informative and probably amusing thread...

Cheers fish. Maybe I should have been clearer. I cant get mine tape free anymore ;) I can get police cordon tape but that may be a bit of an incorrect use for it

Plus, if you croaked in the night, no one could check on you as they wouldn't be allowed to cross the tape. ;)

I just use ordinary white nylon guyline... Not very stealthy, but I can see it in the dark..

M@ is your profile picture, Adam and Eve at the summit of Tryfan? Looks very much like it to me. Oh, and did you do the jump?

Indeed Martin, you are correct, it is Adam and Eve on Tryfan. This was in 2011 when I climbed up with my brother in law and me best mate. It was probably one of the best days in the mountains ever!

I did the jump and I'm not at all good with heights so was both pleased to have done it and pleased I landed safely. I still tremble at the thought!

you can get liros cordage with a single thread of reflective material running through it, expensive as guy though

Well, I've never tried it, but maybe you could use a reflective paint spray ( like THIS (http://www.amazon.com/Reflect-All-ReflectALL-Reflective-Spray-Paint/dp/B007XI150Q) or THAT ONE (http://www.amazon.com/Reflect-All-AREF-100-12-Spray/dp/B004BFTOQQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hi_1) ). So you could use dark guylines if you like them more than bright colors, but you can also see the ropes at night with your torch.

yep and thyre cheap as chips off flebay ,the genuine 'starlight ' brand will glow for a good 10 hours. when i use them i cut a short section of fishtank hose (the clear stuff)and put on the line, then the starlight slips into it and holds its place anywhere on the line.

I was fed up of tripping over the lines and having a sagging tarp in the morning so I chose a heavy option. I use bungees from the bushcraft store.

http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/4-pack-of-36-olive-green-bungees-174-p.asp

Easy to attach and take down. Always a perfect pitch. If I or something else trips (damn soldiers) over the bungees my tarp won't rip. Downside is they're bulky and heavy.

That sounds like the stuff I use. I got it in the climbing gear section of one of the local outfitters. It's about a 3-4mm accessory chord. Reflective bits show up great at night.
