Moon Halo - Nov 2012 in Cornwall

Just took a call from an excited RoadKillPhil who spotted a stunning Moon Halo hovering above my house, pictures never really do this sort of thing justice and it's not got photography but working with what I had (no Tripod :().

You don't need a tripod for shots of the moon Ash , I took this last night
Camera settings - f 9 1/20s ISO 100

I did use a 150 to 500 mm lens tho :D with the crop factor it makes it a 750mm lens

edit anything bellow 1/60 s will show slight blurring of the moon ? I think as it is moving so fast
if you click on the pic to enlarge it you can see how much the moon has moved by the double edge .

That's cool, thanks for sharing that. I do love photography but never really delve into it deep enough to learn it all, this will probably sound stupid but how do you focus in such a situation: it's really dark, the object is far away (so you can't temporarily shine a light on it), you haven't got a zoom lens to get an up-close image of the object in the view-finder... I've had this problem trying some night-time landscapes... but then you can change the depth of focus with the aperture can't you - that's something I don't play with enough... off experimenting.

Great images there :wink:. I'm usually out at night Badger & Fox Watch or occasionally
our Peregrine family who hunt/feed at night using the artificial street lighting. I have Canon EOS
range of cameras & Canon Lens, I use Adobe Graphics software Photoshop CS-6 Extended
Lightroom 4.2 as well as various plug-ins compatible with both as Lr can be
used as a plug-in with CS-6 Ext or Stand Alone.
My EOS 1100D camera & one of my lens, image taken at mates house.

If that's the sigma 150 - 500 then its the same as mine got some fantastic photos of small birds last spring most hand held
sometimes resting on my coat or on a tree branch tis a good lens for the price.6012601360146015
