Hi All
I have been inspired by some of the the projects on here to try my hand at modifying a knife blade to make a shorter blade with new shape and wooden handle for heavier bushcraft tasks.
so I have used a hand grinder and attacked the blade and having got that how I wanted it, I have made a fire steel handle in the same walnut to use for practice before starting on the knife handle. That worked well so here is a couple of pictures of the knife handle taking shape. I don't profess to be a master craftsman like some of the ones I've see on here but I am pleased with the results so far.

I need to finish the smoothing and I intend to use clear polyurethane, it brought out the grain in the fire steel handle very nicely.

Looks pretty good so far T^

I like the shape of the handle.

A bit of advice; try to allign the screws so that the slots point the same way, preferably against the grain of the wood. This will make the handle look a lot more finished.

Hi
I have cleaned it up a bit and removed the tape from the blade. There is still a bit to do but this is the job so far, with the firesteel handle in the same material.

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the kind comments and the tips, I will be far less apprehensive about putting more projects on here now that I have seen for myself how supportive everyone is and I hope to put faces to the names and meet some of you during 2013 at the various meets .
cheers

Hi Bri,
I definitely need help, I have never tried any leather work at all, and seeing some of fabulous the work on here (your Celtic cross for example) It's a daunting proposition to try to emulate. Much appreciate the offer, I intended to sketch out a plan and maybe you could tell me if it's a possibility?
As for the signature I'm fairly sure I know less than I thought I knew even allowing for my memory.
cheers
