Dakota fire pit
Upside down fire

i had a dakota fire pit going very well on one of our last meets. there fantastic for heat, but because they draw so much oxygen they demolish fire wood at a rapid rate. great fun to make though had Mark not broken my shovel haha!

training's going very well mate. the .50cal range days start in march so looking forward to that to say the least!

Tony would you consider going light and trying the new spot in the valley.
Why not do your sales pitch when we meet at the park or at the farm and then at the end of the weekend.
There will be plenty of us to help carry the gear down.
Im planning to pop up for the day in feb after the shoot has finished, see what state things are in.

Chaps,

By March I shall have a collection of unwanted carpet samples (about 30cm square). Typically these can be used to put on your chair to sit on (much warmer - especially on the rip stop type seats) or to place just inside your tent or under your hammock to make boot removal easier. While this is not something I'd bother to lug around it can be a nice creature comfort doing an out of the car boot trip.

If you would like one/some/loads let me know and I shall bring them along.

Cheers,

M@

More than happy to do chocolate tart and then cheese and bics (and some port) for pud. Therefore it would be super-duper if could let me know the final numbers.

What time do you anticipate we'd meet?

There is a fresh water tap on the farm. There is also a small seasonal stream that you may be able to filter and boil up. By all means. Bring personal drinking water.

wildish64 my garage is full of kit because i have had over 25 yrs of collecting whilst in the army and i would say that i did not throw anything away that i thought would use again i even have zips that i took off old bergans, combat jackets, nylon cord found on training areas, basically if i thought that if i could use it instead of binning it i kept it, i make my own wires (snares) purse nets ect, i might be able to help someone make or repair something with some of the stuff i have got i dont mind helping anyone.

wildish64
20-02-2013, 10:16 PM

ian c
20-02-2013, 11:03 PM

We're Kentish Men (being west of the Medway) ;) I think before 11 is easily do-able. If we start making a clearing and then set fire to my mate, Mark will have a reference point and will also then be able to land into wind (as one should). If we forget anything then we won't need it (as far as I'm concerned) other than of course, beverages!

I have just purchased a 30' parachute. Think I' l be sleeping on the floor under that.

Bloody hell mate, nice one!
I know foxy from the CampBazza lot have one at they love it!
Just need to get one of those titanium stoves now ;)

So that sounds like you men of Kent are comeing round ear on the way though if so can you make it befor 11, dont forget you'r check list, dont wont any one forgetting anything,Mark do you whant us to get over there to make a clearing in the wood if you'r jumping:happy-clapping: in

Sounds good Tony!
We'll all meet at yours then. From the size of Mark's cargo parachute, he'll be able to drop the car, truck and all of us straight into the middle of camp!

Very much looking forward to it,

M@

Matt, Tony is just the other side of the the bridge. What time do want to muster mate?

Can't wait!!!!! :)

So as far as I can see there will be 10 of us. Our biggest group yet. Tony is dave coming, if so ill cater for 12 to be on the safe side. Not that dave eats a lot. We are going to need a lot of fire wood to us warm. I'm going up today to take the grill and pots and pans, try and rig up some sort of shelter with a tarp. So I don't have to try and fit it all in the car next week.
There are plenty of tree to hang from and plenty of room for tents and bivi bags. A favour to ask if qny one has spare cord for the parachute I, my stocks are running very low at the mo. see you next week

I think if we swing by yours at around 10:00 then we've plenty of time for hellos and loading plus some extra time in case the tunnel is busy. However if you think earlier or later is more appropriate then do please shout.

As they're upside down without trying, I would assume you're using your phone. If you are, it's a simple case of flipping the phone so the 'take picture' button is under the opposite thumb.

For future reference, If you have upside down images, simply copy them to your computer desktop (or anywhere you want). Highlight each or all of them, click the right mouse button, and select "Rotate Clockwise". Do that twice and your on your feet again mate.

I'm not going to sleep well now.

Anyway, blunts are sharpened, boots polished string is wrapped. It didn't all go to plan though. I was finishing off the last of my inner tube bungees when Mrs Ehecatl distracted me and I picked up my swiss army knife (the small blade was open). Unfortunately I didn't notice I had it upside down and as I tried to cut while pressing on the sharp side of the small blade it folded in and then made in-roads into my finger. Progress was good due to Mr Swiss Army Knife getting up close and personal with Mrs Whet stone yesterday.

It could have been worse and I should be dressing free for next weekend. However, I'm sure the point has been made many times on this forum, treat sharp things with the respect they deserve. I know I'm preaching to the converted but if you'd asked me this morning if I'd let something so amateur happen to me I would have said "don't be silly".

Who feels silly now though?

Me. :ashamed:

Cheers,

Other than Matt's offer of bringing cheese & biscuits, port and a pud. Ian bringing enough baguettes to keep the French economy ticking over for a good week.
We've not globally agreed anything.

So I'll throw it out there ...What are we doing for Saturday nights meal? We should obviously go communal!

Stew & Dumplings?

Everyone bring a packet of meat (what ever you want) and a bit of stewing veg.
Has anyone got a big enough pot?
Get mixed herbs, stock cubes, a few packets of dumpling mix, a bottle of red, and we're away!

What do ya think lads?

wildish64 i use the chain links that screw together i got mine from a ships chandlers but you can get them from B&Q i think i saw them in there for about £5 a pair, i have had no problems with them, i will admit that i got the idea from when i used to do a bit of parachuting as they are used on the rigging lines i thought that if they can take the punishment of the chute deploying and hold me below the chute i can use them, i have gone for a little bigger than the ones on the chute as they are about 1" long, the ones i got are about 1 1/2" long, hope this helps.

Shame Wrighty cant make it. So appart from the stew (which I've had before from Marks fine kitchen), the cake, the french sticks, and the obvious 12pounds of bacon that will be no doubt hogging all the cooking space, I was intending on bringing some food for the masses. Feel like a 16 year old Army cadet again! ha ;)

Had Sainsbury's deliver my goodies earlier today! If you had posted earlier I would have had an Army cadet delivered for you! ;)

Just got to finish tea, eat it and then empty my kit all over the floor and repack it.

Gasp.....

HAHA!!!!
Brilliant. It's a high price to pay for a overnighter. I think Paul would have preferred to just give Mark a fiver or something.

"Plus One" will be gutted. He thought that being a newbie AND a non forum member, that particular task would fall upon him!

Ha!
No, still walking around showing people. Getting some doors slammed in my face from distant neighbours now, very odd. ;)
