Hello all, I Finally found time to make a wood gas stove from old cans, I'd been promising myself to do one for a while.

Ideas came from youtube but added my own twists, Made it and wanted to try it, outside was wet and horible....

Stood it on an piece of wood on an upside down bowl, cut up some wood and lit it up,
Fired from the top which seemed a bit strange but it was quickly alight, then the bright idea struck and decided to properly test it with a pan and some food.

All going great popped in for a spoon and some bread, the wind blew the whole thing over....

Pan landed updide down emptying the food on the slabs, then the stove full of perfect embers landed upside down in the food, Dog didn't care after it had cooled

PS... Stove was almost smokless and worked great, but will have to work on the stability issue ... joking apart there is a lesson here.

At least you know it works......

I have one on the go, just needs the holes drilling, and potstand making......

The weather today has been a mare, I'm sure in the field, with a shield, it will be a lot sturdier.

Brilliant. couldn't stop laughing. Then realised it was unfortunate and I shouldn't laugh really. Then went with my first thought.

Dog thought it was great, he wanted to eat it with the hot embers just to beat me to it, I'm not fussy you know..

I will have to take some pictures when I fire it up again, but I'm not going to re-enact the mess on the slabs (well maybe just for fun) The Dog won't mind..haha

I'll stick an unlit photo and some build details on here very soon so you can view the design

Pictures as promised, looking in the top to show grate the bottom to show the gas gap, side to show air intake only half way round for wind direction (makes the burn more controlable)

top (pot stand breather with feed gap) is a condensed milk can (cut out right through bottom ring allows it to go inside for stowage)
inner can is regular bean can, outer can is slightly bigger (can't remember what was in it)
Finally the grate was a small evap milk can ( the guy on youtube used a gutter mesh, I didn't have any and the old can does just fine )
