View Full Version : Hammock chair test
I'm not sure if this should be posted in kit mods or here under videos and pictures so if it's wrong apologies and please amend as necessary.
Went for a little walk to my local woods to try out my home made hammock chair. There were a few snow drifts about so if it collapsed I could have a soft landing ;)

Enjoyed a brew and more than happy with the chair, it folds to nothing and is very comfortable. more to the point it is strong enough for my great weight

That looks perfect BJ. Could I ask a cheeky question ie:- what dimentions is the ripstop.
Just so as I can totally copy your chair.

Bought from a well known auction site http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370652625436?var=640037500200&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
2mtres x 1.115 metres (standard width) £2.90 Tree huggers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320960662752?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 £6.95.
I folded the nylon in half so 1 x 1.15 metres sewed a seam all round and then an additional seam to take the straps on each end of the 1.115 length.

It is amazingly strong when folded in half and plenty big enough. if anyone wants some detailed photographs I will put them up.

That's perfect BJ, thank's for sharing the measurement's. I had the idea of cutting a piece from a large sheet which I once used for a bit of shelter for a barbecue in the garden.
The more detailed photo's you mentioned would be useful mate.
Thank you BJ, Dave
Hi Dave
More detailed photos showing seam detail and width. It is folded in half so when the ends are folded again and sewn it is 4 thickness's of nylon where the straps go through.

When I first made this it looked a little small but after testing I wouldn't change anything it is plenty big enough and can be hung one end higher to give a tall backrest if required. By luck it worked out just right for me. If you make one post some pictures and give it a review. ATB

Hi BJ
thank's for the photo's and extra detail's. The tall backrest is exactly what I'm after to relax, laid back a bit and watch nature go past.
When I make it I will try to do some photo's but, this is the bit where I come unstuck "uploading them". Me and the world of laptop's
are not very compatible. I operate on coal and town gas and the computer uses this stuff called electricity, LOL
The video you did is excellent by the way.

Great job BJ, That's really nice and I would love one, but it would have to be hand stitched (No sewing m/c)
So I use one of those netting hammocks (packs about size large orange) and can be used as a hammock if required, but I generally use it as a gear hammock (keeps my kit off the ground)

Well BJ, here is my attempt of your most excellent Bum Hammock. The finished dimensions are 81cm wide x 137cm long, or in proper money 32" x 54". The hanging webbing is what came from my DD Hammock when I upgraded to whoopie slings. The photo's are of it laid out flat on a table with close up of stitching detail. The material is ripstop nylon folded in half and then folded again at the ends to form a 3" triple stitched hem for strength and ease of fitting the webbing.

Because of the snow, I was unable to get a photo of it hanging properly.
Absolutely brilliant, you've got to get out now to test it properly. :happy-clapping:
