Hi ladies and gentlemen
Today I am going to try fire by friction for the first time,
I will be using the fire bow thingy method (do you like my technical terms),
followed by frustration, then the petrol and lighter method hahaha
wish me luck :D

Use the right woods, take your time and have patience and it will happen.

I spent ages messing about with bits of wood trying the bow drill,i had smoke but ever an ember...until i picked up a dead branch from a horse chestnut, within 10 mins i had made fire (such a moment!!!) so as luresalive says, you do need the right wood.
Ive practiced allsorts in the garden, bow drill, made charcloth, practiced feather sticks, polished up and made a coke can solar reflector to use with charcloth. i sit in the evening watching tv practicing my knots. always something you can do,i find sharpening my knife very relaxing....in fact i sharpen everything thing i can find now.my oh is always moaning she cut herself on the kitchen knives as 'they are too sharp' lol you just cant win sometimes.
here's a link to a great knot site and as you've got your paracord you got no excuse now lol
Once it has played the vid if you click on the frame numbers you can see it step by step

The right woods are essential and everybody seems to have their favourites, for me it's lime or willow for drill and hearth, but I've succeeded with hazel, sycamore , poplar and even ash ( as a spindle) but you really can't go wrong with lime or willow.
