I've always thought Bear is good entertainment but Ray is Factual...

Just read the article, and it has disappointed me to read it, I thought highly of both but not so much now. :(

I saw a lecture by Ray a while back. A journalist tried to get him to comment on Bear, to his credit he never bit and just said that he wouldn't comment on other people and their programmes.

The pair on dual survival are great in their own back yard but seem to bumble around not knowing what they are doing anywhere else. Plus they had an epic fail this week trying to make fire with a bow drill, credit though for not faking it. I do watch it but I can't say its that good to be honest.

So they failed with a bow drill? Really? Have you ever failed with the bow drill? I know Ray Mears has, many times, so has Bear..if you think the bow drill means guaranteed fire everytime all I can say is you must be a master at it, I've never seen anybody succeed with the firebow everytime...There's a video on you tube of Survivorman taking 12 hours to get an ember with the bow drill.. failure is the step that leads to the knowledge of success...

I like Ray but I'm pretty disappointed he would take cheap shots at anyone else's success, but to snipe at Bear's is just childish. Very insecure of him, regardless of how old the story is.

As for DS, I'm a big fan. I like Dave a lot and supported him through his CV exaggeration saga with Discovery. If anyone has seen Dave's replacement I think you'll agree, although he has better credentials, he's a bit of a Charlie. I'm not sure it's on UK TV yet though.

Success is the reward of persistance, keeping trying even when you are ready to give up... I believe he had two bore in the piece of wood and gave up, this is the difference between life and death and after all it is a survival program is it not.

I enjoy sharing their failures too! Gives the right balance.
Bear was once put to the test in man made heavy rain and wind, tasked with making a lean-to shelter and a fire!
He failed and conceded he would die ...and I admired him even more for his failure!

At least its honest......Dave C sticks to the bushy ethos of sharing his knowledge. It is a survival programme too after all and the main aim is to effect rescue by what ever means necessary it meant to be bearable not comfortable. Till hallelujah youre saved !

Incidentally Dave C's youtube is focusing in the 18thc native indian/ backwoods hunter lifestyle now

Ray is a whole different kettle of fish, Ray lives in the outdoors, he thrives in it, its about being as comfy as you can, theres a price with that - heavy kit....

I've only caught the promo's for the new season of DS, and I'm not planning on watching. I subscribe to Dave Canterbury's 'wildernessoutfitters' You Tube channel. I've watched many of his videos, especially his series on trapping. Very well done and all the knowledge shared on You Tube is freely shared which I love.

I have seen some eps on YT and not very taken with Joe Teti.....not decrying his military credentials, just dont like his style. Series 2 of DS is currently airing on Discovery Ch in the UK so we still get DC :)

Definitely agree with you there. ;)
Though I will say that I was always fond of Cody - I prefer his 'laid-back and respect Ma Nature' attitude.
And Ray Mears...he's 'freakin awesome! :D
