Meths alternative ?

Ok as I posted already ran out of meths whilst playing with a new alcohol stove so popped out today to get some and could not believe how much this stuff has gone up ! what happened to a 500ml bottle costing around a £1 ? B&Q wanted nearly £4 that's £8 L !!! so thought stuff that then I happen across bio ethanol at £5 for 2L, quick look on the smart phone found that meths is denatured ethanol (basically stuff is added to stop wino's drinking it) Wiki actually says "Denaturing alcohol does not chemically alter the ethanol molecule. Rather, the ethanol is mixed with other chemicals to form an undrinkable solution." So 2L was purchased and just tried some burnt well and left no residue as this stuff is meant for indoor use guessing going to be ok for outdoor use to :camping:

Hi wildish64 yes it was a large B&Q and its call la hacienda bio ethanol 2L bottle @ £5 and it was in the fire place section

Thats a cracking find John, well done mate.

I go through loads of meths because I am always making and trying out different stoves. I will buy some when my next lot runs out. For anybody down here in Cornwall, Jims in Redruth sell meths in 5 litre containers for £12.99. That has got to be the cheapest I have seen it.

Its not very often that I go to Trago, even though it only about ten miles away from Camborne. Its one of those places that if you want nothing in particular you end up coming home with a boot full. They seem to stock virtually everything that you want at good prices. Its much better than that R & J Supply place !!.

I have trained myself to walk in through the door, straight down the aisle past the bags, into the decoration section, pick up the meths, turn, pay and leave. On a good day you can be out in a couple of minutes, on a bad day its about an hour and a half with stainless rings, shockcord, webbing and half a dozen other things haven fallen into the trolley on the way round :ashamed:

It would work but to get it down to a reasonable price you have got to buy a barrel of it

Compared to the prices locally for meths around 2.50 for 500ml its a fairly good price delivery included.
