Any input would be appreciated.

Have the mill tec one of the ecwcs find it good think the Helikon it better though

I have, a now, old Miltec Strum Gen 1 ECWCS jacket, without a liner... had it for about 10 years now. It been a very hard wearing jacket, and still going strong. However it has lost much of its waterproofness and no amount of Nikwax seems to restore it. I guess its the material that's delaminated. So I've also been looking at the Helikon.

I have spoken to Military 1st and they seem to agree with you that the Helikon is a better jacket. (Its not lined though, but you can naturally layer with a fleece). I've a couple of pairs of Helikon trousers and they have been very good, so personally I'll probably go with the Helikon on my next purchase.

It is 50/50 cotton/polyester, but has a Gore-Tex and a pile line and both are removable.

I'm umming and ahhing about getting one myself (would probably dye it if I do as I'm not a fan of DPM, but I digress) might be of interest to you too?

thanks colin, yeah id probably dye it myself if i bought a camo jacket, am popping upto military mart tomorrow as its only up the road heaven knows what il come back with lol.

Kernowek i bought the dutch gortex jkt when i was in brecon it did not have the liner or the hood but it was a very good jkt it kept me dry and i used a softy jkt with mine which kept me warm, oh and i paid £45 for mine that was over 4 years ago, i dont have it anymore as gave it to my oldman for when he is sitting in a hide shooting as he is getting on now.

I know this is a smock and designed for photography but the stealth gear stuff looks ideal for out and about in the woods with loads of pockets .

Yeah it was me who started that thread, it seems dying Gore-tex is sadly nigh on impossible, but if the coat itself is a cotton/polyester mix, like this one and it has a removable liner that is Gore-tex, then you should be able to dye the jacket, without knackering it.

If I do get one and actually pull my finger out and have a stab at adapting it, I'll post the result and let you know whether it lives on my back or in the bin.
