View Full Version : Recomendation for a Tarp with small pack size/weight?
Hey ppl,
Anybody got any recommendations for a tarp OR tarp/hammock setup that has a small pack size/weight?
I'm looking for a more compact/lighter alternative to my tent setup which is a Wild Country Zephyros 1 (Pack size: 52cm x 14cm Wight: 1.5Kg) but all the tarps/combinations I've come across seem to be about same size/weight or dont save enough size to justify buying additional/alternative gear :(

Large tarp/basha (2mx3m) can serve as both a hammock and shelter with one unit, just gotta set it up right. I tried this last year for two nights, once I got it sorted out it was quite comfy to sleep in/on. Didn't rain though, but still....

Wow, I would never have thought the eyes would hold on a tarp with my weight on it. I'd expect them to rip out. Is it designed for that kind of (ab)use? ;-)

Hammock/tarp is not a lightweight option. Your Wildcountry Zephos is always going to be a lighter option albeit slightly less versatile in terms of needing flat level ground. On the other hand, you don't need to spend time searching out suitable trees to hang from.

The tarp that is being used for the hammock/ tarp is the british issue tarp/ stretcher and it is being suspended using the handles for the stretcher.

The army basha tarp has 1" webbing all around the edges, as well as in the middle strip, so the eyelets are mounted in that webbing, not just the nylon material. And yes, I've used the tarp that Ian C so generously gave me, as a hammock in this set up, as well as just a hammock, I was more worried about the trees and ropes/straps I used giving out than I was about the tarp itself.
