My new scran set

Was over my mate fish's and out in the woods with kids we were collecting wood to make a fire for a brew and toasting marshmallow when fish cut a nice piece of wood from a fallen Beech tree, I noticed it had some spalting in it so kept it and took it home with me.

Got a pot out of it that I made a present of and turned this bowl for myself to use for food when out and about, the spoon is hand carved from local Ash, both finished in food safe products.

As these are intended to be used for eating out of the bowl is natural coloured but the spoon had some brown food dye washed on main whilst the spoon bowl was soaked in super glue this gives it a very durable finish, then I put 3 coats of pure chinese tung oil on both items letting it dry between coats then buff it up with a soft cloth, whilst tung oil is food safe and also recommended for kids toys it is made from a nut so not a good idea for nut allergy sufferers.
That is how I get the grain to stand out and the colour.

I am not sure how super glue improves the spoons bowl though. Spoons will wear around the edge but I can't see why you need glue in the bowl

I know what you are saying but I tried this finish to stop the grain raising up in liquid I thought it may keep it a bit smoother we shall see, it is the first time I have done this.

If you are worried about the grain rising, do your sanding when its all finished and dry, as per normal, then wet the spoon and dry it with a hair dryer (or over the fire etc). This will bring out the grain and feel fuzzy to touch. Then sand it again. You may need to do this a few times depending on how smooth you want the finish.
Or, do no sanding and leave the spoon with just the cut marks..
