This net is based on cod nets once used in the Northwest US by Native Americans.

The wood is a fast growing weed tree (I believe sumac) that I debarked and bent without steaming.
The frame is 12" x 8". I made the net from linen twine, 20" deep. I got the idea from this Google (free) book.

I would love to see seas with enough fish that you could catch Cod in this way still, a time long past I'm afraid. The Scandinavians have far more idea of fishing ground husbandry than we ever will.

Even the recent changes in by catch laws are too little, too late. Our seas will take a huge amount of time to recover and that is only if those bloody great factory ships weren't hovering entire migrating shoals of Mackerel from the sea... News flash dipsticks. Without the baitfish all the other species are screwed! Oh and don't lets get started on Scallop dredgers etc..... :guns:

Apologies, short rant over! :ashamed:
