Well. Watching a video on here of a hobo-stove and meths mod. I thought I'd have a go at making my first stove.
I need to add a couple more holes in the top as when I place my pot on it, it extinguishes the fire. Tomorrow I will simply do this :) It burns great when there is no pan placed oon top & is fairly fuel efficient!
The reason the flames are so big, is because I had to hurry and use mums phone & I used a fire lighter, to start it. :)
As I was in a hurry.

Great stuff Kieran! Yeah looks like you need more smaller holes along the bottom and top, but your well on your way :)
Post back and let us know how it develops. :)

I sure will!
I'm don't think it needs any holes along the bottom?...
I'm going to make some at the top. See how it goes! I'll put more pictures up aswell. :)

Great stove Kieran. What are you using for a billy? You know the water will boil much quicker if you put the lid on?

How many holes have you got round the bottom? I really do think it might need a few extra round the bottom, but like I say; start smaller. It's a learning experience so like you say cut some at the top first and try it, see how it performs. :campfire:

Put loads of holes in, in a pretty pattern and you could call it a round, non collapsible, 'Honey Stove'. :p

Thanks Martin

Good work!
You get amazed how much one can do with so little, don't you?
I am looking forward to see the Hobey v. 1.1
Personally I am working on an Ikea stove at the moment.
Regards.

I've made penny alcohol stoves in the past, from various different can sizes, but i've found them to be rather volitile in extreme temperatures. I've only used a stove when fire isn't permitted, and I only made the alcohol stoves to see how well they worked. I usually avoid being caught in situations where I can't have a campfire. My stove = 4 large nails. Setup coals on solid ground (sand won't do), push the nails into the coals in the right pattern for your cookware so that the coals still breath slightly, and you have the perfect customized "stove" for whatever cookware you happen to be using.

Of the alcohol stoves? Of my personal ones, no. I can post a link to instructions to make the one I found most functional though. Loads of pictures on the site. http://www.jureystudio.com/pennystove/stoveinstruct.html A fun little afternoon project. Be careful with your fuel choices though.. regular store bought alcohol has alot of water in it and tends to flare and sizzle to all hell inside these stoves... could be dangerous!

Hey Kieran neat little stove you have. I have seen guys on other boards with small cups such as yours also the GI canteen cups and made lids for them out of sheet aluminum it's pretty easy to do from what I have seen to.

thanks dude! the windscreen is just made out of aluminium flashing. the ends are bent over so that the diameter can be reduced to pack it all inside the mug. didnīt take much time after all, but works fine and all in all itīs quite a compact kit. i can post more pics of what i also keep in that set if you desire...

Hi, here's one of mine...
Have made several tin can wood burning hobo stoves out of single wall tin cans plus a couple of wood gasifier twin wall wood burning stoves and a bunch of meths stoves of the pressurised and non-pressurised type. Be carefull, this can take over your life...!

Here's a multi-fuel stove that I made a couple of years ago. It is made of two different-sized soup cans.
The first pic shows it packed and ready to go. The second pic shows it set up for a wood fire. The third shows it set up for use with either solid fuel tabs or alcohol (meths).
The smaller can is a 24 oz. soup can and the larger can is a 32 oz. stew can. I drilled holes in the lid of the 32 oz. can and use it as the base plate for both a wood fire and for fuel tabs or meths. I used a wire clothes hanger for the cross pieces to hold up both the base plate and pot.
