how do folks,
hope this is the right place for the post!

to the point... (a blunt point :( )

thought id sharpen my knife, but only sharpening tool i have is a metal pole styled kitchen knife sharpener...
im quite adept at using it to sharpen kitchen knifes, but when i tried to sharpen my vicky knife, it seemed to strip the sharpening tool, and dull the blade..

any advice??

the blade is a stainless steel blade if that helps.

As far as i know, Steels are used for kitchen knives, they have a very shallow angled bevel nad the natural action of using a steel allows you to sharpen at that angle, the Vict. will have a much steeper bevel so it will take much longer to bring the bevel angle down to a shallower angle similar to the kitchen knife, what you've probably got at the moment is a rounded bevel on your vict. as it is half done, without getting at the actual edge of the blade, and taken the surface off your steel (as Stainless is hard work to sharpen).

If you use a stone on the courser side you will achieve an edge eventually (if you want an accurate bevel angle use a Lansky kit or something similar http://lansky.com/index.php/products/professional-system/ )

Hope this helps, the first part is just a guess but i've done something similar myself in the past

I appreciate that there are purer ways of sharpening knives, but I use this for my SAKs

I recently bought a Fallkniven wet stone and it gets my swiss army knife brilliantly sharp. I also use it for my kitchen knives too - they hold an edge much longer, especially if you hand wash them.
