I bought a couple of these a while ago, from heinnie.com. I keep one in my daily EDC kit and one in the front pocket of my Spec Ops Brand Combat Master Sheath, attatched to a Leatherman Style CS.
These things are not very expensive, yet the quality seems to be fair: There is no creaking or cracking from the plastic when handeling the whistle, nor when you pull the striker from the end.
The striker sits firmly - yet pulls out easily by depressing the button.
The magnesium rod is quite small - and non replaceable - but for me, these are kept as emergency or back-up fire lighters. They will never be my main source of ignition. Rather; I see them as emergency-/signal whistles with the added possibility of making fire, not the other way around.
Some might be concerned about putting the magnesium in your mouth when blowing the whistle; this should be of no concern to your health at all - unless you happen to swallow the whole whistle by accident ;)
