I've got a decathlon tarp, with pole/peg points and guy lines on the corners and center/ridgeline. My kids want to camp out in the in laws woods/backgarden and rather than take two tents, i was going to take the tarp and use it as a tent for me. What's the best way to pitch it?
Using some clips, i've set it up like this, but not sure if there is a better way...

Just something that I like to do.
If the weather isn't too windy/rainy, I'll pitch it so that the sides are about a half foot off the ground. This gives me an extra half foot of head room.

hello,
If it keeps you dry who's to complain

The tarp comes with poles, so I could give myself more head room, though that's about the same height as my backpacking tent so it's fine for me.
Keeping dry is the big question, it's forecast to rain this weekend...

there's a couple of good youtube vids on tarp setups / tarps as tents, good luck and enjoy,
I did see one where the guy just pitches using a central rope over a branch, nice and easy to do

Cheers jus. I'd seen that page before, but couldn't remember the address. I'm not sure my tarp has enough points to do some of them, bit I'll have a go tonight

My favourite set up for a tarp/tent is the adirondack shelter.
You see how to set it up here:

Your tarp will need to be square at least 3mx3m to get the most out of this set up. But it's a good one.

Does it have eyelets on it, if so you could use them to put two poles in, one at each end, and then use guy ropes.
Hope this is helpful

I use a DD 3x3m and set it up like this using walking poles; one on the outside is marlin hitched and pegged out and the interior one just sits in under pressure...

At the back peg out one loop in from each corner and fold in to make a wedge shape.

But don't do what I did and set it up on low ground in thaw conditions, waking up with your sleeping pad beginning to float on slushy melt water isnt fun !
Hope that helps :)
