On a spur of the moment desicion,
I went out solo a couple of months ago to test some new gear, (foil blanket and new sleeping bag). There was a reasonable amount of snow about so I just went locally to a small copse along the side of a footpath,
Dropped in after dark and set up without a torch (quite a light night due to the snow).
After getting settled and a brew from a flask, I tucked into bed quite early....just as I was dozing someone taking their dog for a te O'clockish walk ambled by, he was oblivious to my presence but his dog knew I was there and started to bark at the copse, he got his torch out and from the path discovered nothing. He called is dog and off they went.
Having walked down the path a ways, he headed back for home ovbiously curious about the search he had before, So he walking in the field the other side of the copse which allowed him to pass not more than ten yards from me, on came the torch and he was shining it around sweeping the trees.
Rather than let him discover me, I turned on my torch to make him aware of my presence. He all but ran away up the path and quickly disappeared, oviously despite wanting to know what was in the trees he was not ready for what he found.
Half expecting a visit from the Boys and Girls in Blue I found it difficult to settle, but the next thing I knew was morning had arrived. At some stage during the night it had rained hard and all of the snow was gone.
The gear test was a complete success as I had a good nights sleep with no cold spots. I laugh about it now but found myself a bit nervous at the time, note to self... choose the spot more carefully
