Army bivvy bag Swag/Bedroll conversion

I've had an army OD bivvy bag for years but only used it less than half a dozen times, the main reason being I hate having to wriggle in and out and it means you cant unzip your sleeping bag and get out sideways. Browsing here and other places I thought I'd steal someones' idea (thank you shaggy stu from BUK) and add a zip. I canibalised an old guitar bag for some PU backed cordura and a long zip. 2.5 hours with the help of a sewing machine and I now have a sleep system that seems to fit the bill.

I don't go lightweight camping any more (kids!) and will be car camping this year so weight and size aren't a primary issue. the system will only ever be used with a tarp (next project) so complete waterproofing isn't necessary its more of a breathable/water resistant cover for the rest of the system. I just need to act some d ring webbing compression straps and its finished

hoping for some free time to take it for a test run.

Comments anyone?

at present its 7kg, with my czech bedroll inside, i might try it with my down bag and liner and then maybe a 2 blanket (army wool/mix and 100% merino) 'wrap' to see how much that affects weight/bulk,

I like the idea, but the bivvy bags do not have zips on them cos they will keep you waterproof without one. Having a zip means water will come in if it rains. I am guessing you are gonna be under a tarp though, and the bivvy is just an extra layer..
