Last Friday a friend and myself had a night out in some local woods.
For me it was a chance to break in some kit that hadn't been used before - a DD Travel Hammock, a Snugpak sleeping bag, and a Karrimor self-inflating mat. A complete new sleep system.
You see more about our night here:

Yeah, it all did very well - snug and warm and cosy all night.
I'm not a 100% committed hammockeer though. It's a warm weather option for me - I find you can keep warmer on the ground in the colder months with a lot less gear than using a hammock. Hammocks are always the bulky option.

I think the bulk of kit required to keep warm in cooler months, is definitely the biggest negative as far as hammocking is concerned. But I still find it a more comfortable kip.
And, you are also limited to areas where there are suitable trees to hang your hammock up. I guess it comes down to circumstance and personal preference. If you are camping out of a car, not walking very far or just happy to be a pack mule, then suitable trees allowing, hammocking is an option in cooler months.
But ground dwelling will always tend to be the lighter and less location restricting option (but not necessarily the cheaper option).
I'm a great believer in do what works for you, Over nighting in wintry conditions (and returning home with a smile) is admirable in itself, whether you do it in a hammock or a tent is just a detail.
Again great video, thanks for sharing,
Atb.

Hi Anthony..welcome to the forum...its customary for new members to head over to the intros thread..here...http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?37-Introduce-Yourself-amp-Welcome-to-the-Community! and drop the forum an intro post.
As for how much cordage you will require very much depends on how you intend to set up your tarp....my ridgeline for example is 7m long, more than ample to go round 2 trees and to bridge the gap between then I have 4 x 2 m lengths for guying out.
have a look here for more info:

As Dave C would say......the 5 'C's' of Survival...Cutting tool, Combustion device, Container, Cover, Cordage
