View Full Version : [WTB/trade] British WWII gear
A little unusual, I know. But you people are the biggest collection of Brits on the Web that I know.
I am currently putting together a re-enactment kit for a 1942/-43 tank commander of Royal Armoured Corps 161'th "Green Howards".
What I am looking for in particular is the following:
1937 pattern webbing and gaiters - especially a Webley holster
MKII No. 2 army binocular - or any other british WWII binocular
WWII era patches and insignia relating to Royal Armoured Corps and Green Howards
WWII era army pocket knife
+anything else that might strike my fancy :) Let me know what you have.
I will also do trades from my pile of bushcraft/outdoor gear.

161st (12th Bn. The Green Howards [Yorkshire Regt.]) Regt ...The current 'Yorkshire Regiment' is made up of the amalgamation of the former Yorkshire 'County' Regiments... The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire (14th/15th Foot), the Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment) (19th Foot), The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) (33rd/76th Foot) and associated Territorial Army units.
A prouder history you could not have selected...the Yorkshire Warriors will salute you.
Coming from the area I will keep my eyes and ears open for you Jakob
i could lend you a mint invasion map of France dated 1944.
That would be awesome. But I would never dare to borrow such an irreplaceable object :)
or trade on a pump style water filter?

Jeep I have been a Living Historian (reenactor) for many years (Hence my Forum name)
I have quite a few items from your list, including the 1937 pattern holster.
Let me check my shed tomorrow and I will message you a list :-)
Awesome! I will be looking very much forward to that.
Remember; I work at an outdoor store, I can trade you almost anything :)
Btw. if anyone has a BSA folding/parachute bike laying around, I would be very much interested as well.

I have an old British Army tank suit from (I think it says on the label) 1935. The label is worn so it could be 1955..??
I bought it years ago when I used to sit on dumper trucks all day in the Winter. I do not use it any more, so if its any good to you..
I would be very interested in that. Which size is it?

About 5' 10"h x 36" waist. Ish. It was the right height for me but I had to tighten the belt a lot on it for me. I expect it would fit me well now though lol. I will get some pics of it for you..
Oh, if anyone has a tommy helmet laying around, I would be very interested in that too.

Looks interesting, but I suspect the price will end up a lot higher than 30 quid :)

Its a bit grubby after being in the shed for quite a few years, but other than a tear on one of the knees and a small split under an armpit, its in pretty good nick. One of the main zips has lost its puller, but still works. I always got in and out using the other zip. Its got about 13 pockets and is very warm. I guess it would of had a hood, but I have not got one to go with it.
It is heavy, weighing in at about 4kg..

Hi JEEP, if you don't get everything from the forum you could try this shop http://www.epicmilitaria.com/section.php/177/1/wwii-british-uniforms/74bb70b5fd8c0ab5aa65f4e48093c2fa. Im not connected to it other than ive bought a few things myself and always found them to be helpfull.

hello,
How is the kit search coming along now, any further progress?
Regards
David
A lot of progress actually :D
I now have a full P-37 battledress, a MKII helmet and almost full webbing.
I am still looking for:
White army suspenders
P-37 Colarless shirt (wool) (size 46 or 48)
GS beret (size 59 or 60)
1937 entrenching tool and cover
Wash roll
"House wife" (sewing kit)
Size 4 or 5 gaiters
MKII or MKIII gas mask and bag
I have been adviced to gather a infantry kit, before anything else. So the tank commander kit will have to wait a little.

If you're still looking for webbing, I have a bunch of the following -
- Canadian P37 skeleton water bottle carriers (press stud for strap is on the side like WWI-era P08) - unissued
- Australian or Canadian P37 basic pouches (NOT the larger utility pouches) I'm pretty sure they are MKIII, but I'd have to check - used, very good Edit: They're MKII
- Australian or Canadian P37 pistol ammunition pouches (I padded mine with felt for use with a prismatic compass) - unissued
- P37 suspenders - used, very good
I also have an M88 style Prismatic marching compass I installed in a black lacquered brass WWII MKIII marching compass case (looks almost identical to a wartime compass but no more radium hazard/bubbles/cloudy fluid) this is fully operational and accurate to within 1 degree which is as good as the wartime issue MKIII compasses. This is perfect for reenactment or general land nav use.
I have a British late 1930s-issue "A" MKII ivorine rectangular protractor, which is surplus to my requirements- used, serviceable
I have an Australian WWII (British pattern but lightweight) groundsheet - unissued and perfectly serviceable as a groundsheet
I'm open to trades of outdoorsy gear, but I'm really looking for a British WWII Scout Regiment Telescope (Tel., Sct. Regt. Mk IIs) to replace my recently-retired 1860s 3-draw field telescope. Being plugged in to the WWII reenactment community JEEP might know someone who knows someone... :)
