Heard my first Cuckoo of the year today, near Hamsterley, Co. Durham in woodland next to River Wear

Nope not yet. Heard a Nightjar last time out, but Cuckoo is keeping his head down still. :D

Heard a Cuckoo earlier this year but they're not common in these parts (NW Kent).

heard afew times up here on the fell in cumbria... when i work over north yorkshire on the hill tops around thirsk id see them alot... not seen or heard them anywhere else in my life.

if you're like any other 12 year old you're probably making too much noise to hear them.......... ;) its easy really they literally go cuck....ooo.

Although I must admit they dont seem to be as common down here as they used to be.
I have only actually seen one once and that was when we were wild camping in Ireland amongst some sand dunes.

Heard quite a few cuckoos. There's one I hear most days on the opposite side of the field - can't be more than a couple hundred yards away. I've lurked around those trees, waiting for him. But still no luck.
Getting to see them is the trick...

At a distance they are easily mistaken for Woodpidgeon , close up you can see the whiteish bars on their wings. I have actually seen two together on the fringes of Hamsterley Forrest a couple of years ago.

look closely for the bars long their breasts
