A file (for removing nicks and reshaping if necessary) and a Gransfors axe stone for general sharpening. I also use a Falkniven DC4 diamond/ceramic sharpener as well.

Another vote for the GB puck stone

A friend of mine has one, and has had it for around 6 months and it still does not need sharpening. You could get away with just stropping it after every use.

Thanks everyone i was going to get one of the gb axe stones but i wanted to see what everyone thought about it. And MSkiba i had no idea that they held an edge for so long!

Ill likely buy it as well, not just because a file will rust and need something for my axe, but I just bought a Martindale golok that ill need to sharpen as well (after I reprofile the bevel on it of course).

As an alternative to the GB axe puck you can also look at the Lansky axe Puck as well.
