Went up the local hills with my 6 year old on Friday last. Evening started off overcast but soon brightened up. The missus reckoned I was overloading him but he seemed to manage the bags ok!

A hearty meal of chicken tikka, sweet chilli prawns and chocolate filled pancakes to finish! Great little trek, a bit of knife practice and some good “bonding” time. Who could ask for more?!!

Looks like you two had a great time and a fantastic feast. Bet all his friends will be jealous when he tells them about it. Think all kids should have a chance to get out and play and live a little in the woods. I know I spent most of my days out just doing stuff. Had a pocket knife and could light a fire from very young but never did anything malicious.

Hope you've many more trips out,
GB.

Looks fantastic! I've nearly finished my tea reading this and the chicken tikka has got me feeling hungry!

Your son's tshirt is very effective in the tree shots you can't see his torso!

I have to agree with your Mrs though, he does look far too overloaded. Perhaps I could help carry the bags next time? :happy-clapping:

Cheers,

M@

Great pics Thumbcrusher. For me, one of the most important duties of a Bushcrafter is to pass on the skills we possess.
No better pupils than our offsprings.

Nice one!

Wait for a nice summer evening and get out overnight with himT^
You will both have a great time, they love going to bed in thier clothes and getting mucky! My boys nag me constantly to go out in the woods with them, it does me good to get out and play with them too.

Looks like you had a blast, what knife do you have for your son as I'm thinking if getting something for my boy to practise a little?

Great photos thanks or sharing

Thanks everyone for the comments! The knife my son has is a Hultafors safety knife with a Carbon blade which really holds an edge well but no point so less chance of stabbing himself! This one... http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Hultafors-Knives/Safety-Knife/p-92-913-6869/
Mora also do a stainless steel one now. There's one here http://www.woodland-ways.co.uk/buy-online-mora-safety-knife-stainless-steel-622.html but might be worth doing a search on google as this is £11 odd but i only paid about £4.50 delivered for my sons a year or so ago!
