Help with Trangia

Ive been given part of a trangia cook set. Burner, windshield and top rest plus a pan or two. i want to get a kettle to suit and maybe the "frying pan". When ive looked for kettles i find some listed as for 27 set and some for 25 set. Is their a difference. Same question for the pan. Thanks :confused2:

Also can anyone recommend a gas burner (apart from the trangia) that will fit/work in the windshield cut-out?

The frypan will act as a lid for the closed stove - 27 frypan is 18cm diameter and the 25 frypan is 22cm diameter, measure the top of your windshield to see which you have

Also the pans for the 27 are 1 litre capacity and those for the 25 are 1.75 and 1.5 litre and kettles are 0.6 and 0.9 litres respectively.

The smaller 1 / 2 person Trangia 27 has a circumference of 18cm, the larger 3 / 4 person Trangia 25 has a 22cm circumference.

When you know which one you have, you can buy pretty much any component of a full set, as an individual item.

If there's anything to update on a Trangia it's the frying pan, And a cheap wooden spatula or carve your own :) You don't want bits of Teflon in yer breakfast;)

A little cheap thing is to put a piece of kitchen roll between each of the parts when you repack it after cleaning. They come in handy !

It is worth checking the ally Tesco kettle as a cheaper alternative. They are good bits of kit, and I have 3 of them now.

Indeed, The trangia non-stick version is great :)

I ended up flogging my set but re-purchased the frying pan. Will probably get set again one day.

+1 get the non stick, and use wooden utensils or plastic/silicone. The coating is easily damaged and ruined.

It is pretty rubbish compared to everything else that's available these days, isn't it?
You'd think by now that Trangia could use hard anodizing.

I think they could use more modern techniques in the manufacture, but that would most likely put the price way up, at least to begin with, as all the new machines would need to be paid for :(

Standard version around £50 (25 set) with P&P

HA version around £145 (25 set) with P&P

You can get them on Amazon for £63 and £86, 27 and 25 sets respectively. They also sell the pots individually.

Thanks for all your input folks, appreciated. Now i have another question............there is a gas conversion available for these units - the price is steep for me for the genuine trangia version. Does anyone have or know of an alternative that will fit in the stove hole and works? By works i mean does not sit to high/against the pans etc? I have seen many that look ok but tough to size from internet pics.

As far as I know, the gas adapter doesn't sit inside the actual burner, but has the same diameter lip on it, so it replaces the burner in the Trangia 25, 27, etc kits.

Therefore pretty much any gas adapter of a similar design, with the same outside diameter, should work. The distance from burner to pan isn't too critical, as gas is adjustable. As long as there is more than 5mm and less than 25mm between the two, you should be ok.

You can convert one of these to do the same job. Just need to remove the legs, spring, and pressure plate, then maybe fit a metal disc large enough to sit over the hole in the lower windshield section/stove carrier.

i might be missing a bit here but what about the hose to the gas? By fitting a plate/disc to the stove hole you effectively arent able to feed the stove? i thought they fitted hanging in the hole with the hose then fed outside? Like this?

Ahh, that's the exact same gas stove as I mentioned. Where that one has had pins added to support it over the hole in the wind shield/stove carrier, I meant using a disc of steel with a hole in the centre. The top pert of those gas stoves unscrews, so as long as you drill the right size hole, you can take the burner head off, fit the disc over the venturi, and screw the burner head back on. This would secure the disc to the gas stove part :)

Sorry for not being too clear in my description. I'm not the easiest person to understand, especially without a visual aid lol.

No problem bud. Also not that person had to drill a larger hole in the wind shield, so the valve on the burner could be passed through, but you'd have noticed that when you went to try it anyway ;)
