View Full Version : Two for one..........
Last night I went out to observe a badger set just to pass time, not intending to stay long. I sat for 15-20 mins but there was no sign of anything happening, so I decided to leave. Just as I was slowly moving away, I noticed some movement in the long grass and bracken further up from the set, and here comes a badger strolling down from another entrance. So as you do I sat still to observe and watched it move into the area I was originally watching. Just as I was getting ready to leave again, I seen something else move in the long grass not far from where the badger came from. Again, I stopped and was rewarded by the sight of a fox that appeared to be hunting as it pounced on something in the long grass. I never seen it again; not sure if I it caught sight of me or if it has a den in the area. And to top it off I think I seen a couple of hares on the way back. Not bad I think.
nothing beats a good badger sighting, probably my favorite ground animal, them and deer

Nice experience, Lots of people have never seen a wild badger, only belly up at the side of the road

We had the mutts out down the Canal Sat. Morning. Not expecting to see much other than the odd Mallard and Goose. Was very surprised to see the pointer stock still staring into the undergrowth. Thinking its a rabbit I gave her the Nod. Daughter got the shock of her life when not more than 3m away two roe deer burst from the undergrowth, pointer in tow. Called the dog off and then spent the morning tracking where they went.
I have been quite lucky. Seen the odd live badger here and there as well as red squirrels. Lots of roe deer where I am. Just the other week I seen a doe out with a youngster; still had the white spots on its flanks.

Consider myself lucky too. Right on the edge of the west pennine moors. Sadly don't see much in the way of badgers though.

There is a Badgers sett 400yds from my house on private farmland. I should really ask for permission to view them, the farmer seems friendly enough when I go by his house on the public right of way/path.

On the way home from Scouts last night, my 10 year old in the passenger seat, and a Red Deer jumped straight out from the copse we were passing in front of the van. Anchors on and watched this beauty walk across the road into the field opposite. The look on my lads face was priceless and to quote him 'THAT WAS EPIC!!!'
The rest of the trip home consisted of home telling me how great he thought it was and how he will 'never forget it in his whole life'.
Magic moments.
