My Wooden Crook Knife Sheath

A couple of weekends ago I managed to spend some lovely time whittling, very relaxing :) ... Inspired by one of Jon's Bushcraft tutorials (http://www.bushcraft.ridgeonnet.com/Crook%20knife%20case.htm) from his great site I was off to make a wooden Crook Knife case for the first time.

Beech :)

I've also made a good start on my making my first Kuksa too (out of Ash).

Very nice, that's one thing that has baffled me, how to sheath my Mora hook knife, gave up after a couple tries with leather, just ended up making a sock out of thin leather and left it at that.

BTW, ash is a bugger to work with, found out years ago after making a half dozen electric guitar bodies from it, and was reminded last year by making an axe handle. Tough stuff!

Seconded. It is lovely Ash, well done. Think I am going to have to do this for my crook knife, then I just need to get my crook knife sharp. Any ideas how ?

The edge is on the bottom of it so i think you just sharpen the bevel, the mora ones anyways.

If the edge is on the inside of the curl, No idea :O

Yep, sorry should have mentioned that. I've given it a lick of olive oil.

I have two Frosts Mora screwed up knives, one is a modified hook knife (about 3/4 a circle like Ashley's) with a double edge, and the hoof knife which I cut the tip off of. The third crooked knife is one I made from a file, my first real knife made in 20 years, it needs sharpening too. Likely remember this weekend, use my belt grinder of which I have from 50x to 1200x belts, but have a pile of other things to focus on too, my new wool blanket shirt, sheath for my newly made bushcraft knife, cooking a roast tomorrow, etc.

You noticed I tried to get that in the shot ;)

It's standing up well, a little stiff but no doubt just needs an oil, not sure how much I should apply but I'll have a go.

I'd give it a good rub over with oil, leave for about 5/10 mins and then wipe off excess.

Yep, it was relaxing to make :) .. only thing is the dowel has come loose for the 2nd time! Gona have to make another dowel or think of a alternative closing method.

I think that my one is the same as Ashleys, whch is the 164, in my opinion it is the best all rounder and good for starting out.
