Hello everyone, me and my 2 brother are looking into buying some woodland but all the websites we have looked at are quite expensive.
We want about 4 acers in the north west of the uk for all the northern bushcrafters and wild campers to be able to go nuts without worry of being moved on.
Can someone please point us in the right direction as to which websites are best or an estate agent which deals in woodland.
Many thanks
Kev

I would try to avoid any website or estate agent because its they that bump the prices up. Also if you go to Woodlands.co.uk or similar, you will get a lot of restrictions on what you can do in the wood too.
I would get an os map out and look up small woodlands, and then try to find the owners to see if they would be interested in selling. It would be a lot of leg work, but could pay off. Also get ads out all over and put the word out. Good luck..

http://www.woodlands.co.uk/.com are normally reasonably priced. As a rough guide, you'll be looking at around 10,000 per acre, if it's quite flat and usable woodland. If you didn't mind a piece of land on a slope, or travelling, then Wales often has the cheapest :)

Any woodland that can produce a high yield will be expensive, look for a woodland with a lapsed management plan. As long as you are prepared to put some work into managing it you will get it for less money.
This maybe of interest to you http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/community-action/events-map/item/4344-woodland-management-day-battram-wood-14-august
If you need any advice on management or you need a survey done let me know, I know a few qualified people in the area who can help.

Remember to check the source of the stream, and it's route before it gets to "your" bit of wood. Last thing you want is chemical pollution to deal with, if you plan on drinking it. In a perfect world, a spring would be best, but that may be asking a little much.
Good luck with the woods hunt :)

I see what you mean about wales being cheaper, thanks for the heads up. It might take a while for the right piece to come up for sale but we will get there.
