Ok, hasn't been proven to actually "rustproof" the steel, but I haven't seen any corrosion at all since I started doing it this way, on previous knives, will know for sure later this year after much use of my new knives, still others claim it does work.

Anyways, here are the pics of the forced patina. You need a bunch of white vinegar, a glass long enough to cover your blade, a pot and a stove. Simple.

Sanded to 2000 grit (incidentally, shaving sharp now, even after this treatment, haven't even TRIED to put an edge on it at this point, yet it took one from bevelling and sanding!):

Put the knife in the glass, fill to the handle:

Pour the vinegar into a small pot and heat to a simmer or hotter, then pour into the glass again, put the knife in and add more vinegar if needed to cover the blade. Bubbles will form on the steel, is best to stir them off, let the blade sit for 10-15mins while stirring every few mins to get the bubbles off.

Pull out, wash well and wipe the black "soot" off the blade (don't use your girl's nice hand towels for this) and from here you can leave, oil, sand off and retry, etc.

Nice patina! I am considering doing the same to my Strömeng leuku.

Thanks Jeep, the blistering from the heat treat helps out. I love the feel of the finish, is almost like the blade has been covered in talc, it's so smooth.
