The 12cm Zebra billy can arrived today. Tried loading the content of my solo cook set into it, and that was a no go. The only things that fit was the meths burner, and the billy is intended for cooking over a camp fire. But plenty of room for a cloth bag full of tea, instant soups, instant hot chockolates or whatever food I will bring to cook in it. So all is well. That means I won't be tempted to cannibalize my solo cook kit. :-)
Also got the fleece liner intended for my Jerven bag, and I am sitting in it right now. Combined with the jerven it should be plenty warm for the spring, summer and autumn hangs :-)
Well pleased :-)

Right then, what do you reckon ?. I have just put the money in the bank to buy either a Firebox or a Woodgas Wildstove and am now a bit undecided on which one to buy.
If you had the choice, what would you choose.

I had the same problem with my Zebra - to give a little extra internal height, I put the lid onto the base and put the dish on top on the lid (upside down) - if you know what I mean. Have to use a strap around it to keep it all together, but at least most of it's inside.....

just ordered a DD 4x4 Tarp. hammock sleeve and a camping hammock on the group buy ran by Sandbag47 over on BCUK, i have a cocoon which i got from Ians first order with Snugpak a few years ago, and as i have a henessy its no use, so after some thought and reading Ashleys post about how good he thinks they are, i thought it best i give it a go!
the 4x4 Tarp i have purchased because i have a larger one made by someone off the forums, but the attachment points are all sown on wrong so when you try and make alternative shelters it doesnt work...:( to be honest.. its rubbish! so i thought i would get a proper one and have a play.
the hammock sleeve i have wanted for a long time, i will see if it works with the hennessy as well, the hennessy's have something called snake skins i believe, i dont know wheter they are any good or not, i will wait and see how i get on with the dd sleeve first.
now all i need is a spool of 'Dyneema' Cord to replace my guys and make some slings, next purchase me thinks.

Mr Postie has just delivered my new Tenth Wonder 4.5 x 4.5 metre tarp with doors. What a piece of kit it is. It is very well made and comes with two doors for each end. Taped seams are the norm for this all over and it comes with pegs, ridge line and enough guy line to go all round.

For a cheap Summer bag you can't go wrong with something like this
http://militarymart.co.uk/index.php?_a=product&product_id=436
There seems to be a few hammock users converting them into underblankets at the moment, so they can't be that bad.

I actually looked at that and dismissed it because I thought at such a cheap price it would tear easily, as my cheaply bought family bags have that we used in the family 6 berth.

Just tried out my new Wild Woodgas Stove and it really is the business. The only concern I had with it at the beginning was the burning chamber falling through to the bottom but a tiny bit of stretching has sorted it.
I tried it with the cat litter wood pellets like others have and it burns strong for about an hour. Boiling time is also much improved with it boiling a pint of water straight from the tap in five minutes and a raging boil using the whistling kettle in just under six.

Just ordered my own after seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bkVvwpPHhQc review, quite long but really informative. The bit that really sold it for me was not only the improved stand but the way you can easily turn this into a trangia by inverting part of the combustion unit.
I'm really 'stoked' about this arriving soon. The flat pack element to it means it will easily fit inside a 14cm Zebra with room to spare for a meth burner etc..

You won't be dissapointed with it, even though it being a little expensive.
Its well worth getting some of that cat litter as well. It really burns long and hot. A bag is only about £3.50 and will last ages.

Got a very nice molle waist bag that can also be a small shoulder bag. The belt for it is rubbish, but this is removable, and I have ordered a load bearing molle belt and have planned to attached the wasit bag to that one instead.
Also another magazine thow puch that turned out to be a loty larger than I expected. It was intednded for my Zebra billy can, but it's configuration is all wrong. But the pold one that I use for collecting birch bark and othehr stuff I fin in the forrest turned out to be a perfect fit for the Zebra. So I can use this one for that. Also a good feature on it is that I can roll it upp when empty to get out of the way :-)
And tripple good. The rubbish waist belt for the waist bag, is a perfect shoulder sling for the too large throw pouch. So now that one turns into my possibles bag....
Does this make any sense at all. I am starting to think that my molle addiction is turning silly.

Just arrived, a Gransfors Bruks ceramic axe stone or puck as some call them, that is just a tad fatter than a tin of boot polish and about the same diameter, weighs 160g looks like it will do dual service as a field knife sharpener :D and a leather case for my spoon knife (will probably fit two) it's okay but the stitching looks a wee bit poor.(was cheap though)
Good service from The woodsmith's store, first time I've used them, saw a link somewhere on this forum as it happens, so Ta for that guys.T^

You can get a lot (http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?623-What-Pack-does-everyone-use&p=77366&viewfull=1#post77366) of gear into these little bags, which IMHO makes them ideal for bimbles in the sunshine and at £5.90 all in, from a very friendly, helpful and speedily dispatching seller; a bit of a bargain.

Thanks Paul!
That's all i'm after. Something that's a decent weight (although people say these are heavier than advertised) with a good zoom and good quality at the right price. I'm not looking to sit for hours staring through things, it's to get a glimpse of something in the distance in terms of navigation and wildlife etc..

They do do other Tees Valley meals too, but they (and annoyingly more than half of their and similar suppliers ranges) have mushrooms in, which I'm allergic to, meaning they are a no no for me.
Very tasty meals, better than wayfarer IMO. They used to do a rabbit and red wine stew, which was a particular favourite of mine.
And as they are still selling at a pound a go at my local supermarket, got a couple more today:D

Found a nice cotton pouch for my Zebra billy, so that the soot on it won't dirty up the inside of my pack. But when I came home with it, found that while it was a perfect fit for the 12cm billy, I could not get the handle into it....well, well, it was pressed into service as a food bag to keep inside the billy instead keeping my tea, instant hot chockolate and soups, bannock mix or whatever I chhose to keep there, so that when I want to use the billy, I can just lift everything out. Should keep camp just a little more tidy.

Not Bushcraft really but my mom amazingly just gifted me and my wife with an Acer tablet pc each :-)
It's not a high end thing, but good enough to play music, surf the net, read books with the kindle app, and to use as car navigation. And the kids can use them on long drives to watch a movie on.
The GPS is under par on it, so not something to bring into the woods, but again, the kindle app and to look at downloaded maps as a planning aid, perhaps?
It weighs just 320 grams... :-)
Going to look for a weather shield for it though :-)

Popped into ASDA last night to pick up a cheap garden hose. They have their seasonal aisle which was dedicated to camping.
Bought:
An aluminium mug with a carabiner as a handle (thought that was very cool idea, I can just clip it to the outside of my pack)
Small LED torch
Small dark green ground sheet with mesh bag (perfect for under my hammock)
Several other bits.
All were at most a couple of quid.

Decided to get myself a wood gasifier to go with my growing collection of stoves :D
I found a clone for half price but I dont fancy waiting 1-2 month for it to get from China and the clones sold in UK are same price as original and heavier. Plus the MK IIt comes with some books etc. I have heared the newer model pot support can be a pain so I may get them to send me the older.
Does anybody use this or other woodgas stove that can recommend a decent brand of wood pellets from say Asda/Tesco et?

I have one of the new ones and to be honest, I don't seem to think that there is much wrong with it at all. The new pot support design is fiddly for the first minute or so and then you are used to it. The only problem I had with mine was the fire grate part of it. When I used it for the first time the grate use to fall through the bottom. I don't know if was just the one I bought but it was very, very slightly too small and once filled up with wood pellets it would fall through. I contacted wild stoves and had a reply within the hour. A new grate was sent out no questions asked and they were brilliant.
These stoves are very compact and if using cat litter wood pellets, it will burn solid for over an hour, plus more time if you include whats left when it has burnt through. They are expensive for what they are but in my opinion they are worth it just for the power output. When I take mine out in the woods for an overnight camp with the boy again I might even take pellets with me. I know it defeats the object but one charge will cook a decent meal without having to top up all the time.
Get one mate, if you don't like it I have seen them go for forty quid on Ebay if you wan't to sell it on. There is somebody else on Ebay selling copies of this so be aware.

I use these:- (ANIMAL DREAMS WOOD BASED CAT LITTER) bought 60litres for £20 quid delivered....lazy shopping on fleabay They are the brand in the wild woodgas video,
Someone on here and I can't remember who, had a Sainsbury's version which may have had fire retardants inbuilt and was struggling to get them to burn, no such problem with Animal Dreams. just a small amount of cotton wool and vaseline. could probably use hexamine (I'll try that next trip out)

Thnx for reply/review m8, appreciated.
I had already got one before putting topic up bud, looking forward to trying it out :) I too will likely take pellets with me simply because how dense and how long they burn, I guess it depends on where/how I'm getting there.
I noticed those copies on ebay, They're selling for half the price (£20-23) on a Chinese site and tbh I have heard good reviews about them, Only thing with me is I'm too impatient with delivery's and it also seems to weigh more then the original UK version.
