In my world, I would contact the seller. to offer to send the burner back, for a refund of postage, as I would hope that if I'd sent something out by mistake they would offer to send it back, but that's just me, and the way I am...... cheers Ian....

Sorry but I dont believe you Ian.

If it was an individual seller or small company etc then yes maybe but in my world/on my planet if a big company does this its a result and a happy bonus.

For example if you had purchased something at a large shop, got home and opened it and it was more then you expected you would take it back? I wouldn't and I'm quite sure the vast majority of others on here wouldn't either if they're were being honest.

Hi Chis,

You have a fair point but I would never steal somebody's kit/property so I dont think its a fair comparison in this context. Its much more likely they have simply grabbed wrong stock off shelf then mixed orders up.

..however on reflection I'll contact seller, let them know and see what they say. T^

Just an update from them..

Hi there,

Would you be able to let us know which model of Trangia we have sent you so that we can work out eh best way to go forward from here.

Kind Regards

Summits Outdoor

Hi,

The model of Trangia itself is fine as I ordered the 27-6 UL and was
sent 27-5 UL plus the kettle which is same thing.

I only contacted you because you mistakenly sent out the Gas burner
instead of the Spirit burner, which is also fine because I already have
a Trangia Spirit burner. In the spirit of honesty I contacted you
because I know the Gas burner is worth a lot more then the spirit burner.

Kind Regards
Adam

Hi there,

Thank you for being so honest, and we have now bagged the dyslexic picker!!!

And to thank you for this we would like you to keep the Gas Burner as it was clearly our mistake - with our apologies.

Kind Regards
Justin

So I'm not sure if I actually did the right thing now as I would rather the company be out of pocket then somebody be out of job :(

So maybe in this case honesty was not the best policy, Hopefully they were just joking.

As has been said, the unfortunate picker would have got a rollocking, perhaps even a warning, but unless it was a final warning, it is very unlikely they would have been sent down the road.

But if you still feel bad, you could always auction off the mistakenly sent gas burner and donate the cash (minus postage) to an appropriate charity of your choice?

Or not.

It's not so much a pole extender more a linking section that joins two poles together by replacing the bottom sections of the walking poles. I will take some photos later and post it up.

Did you get around to taking those pics Jus?

I ended up getting a single LEKI Makalu which extends out to 145cm which is perfect height for the minipeak. Haven't really done much hiking but plan to later this month so may end up getting a second pole.

I use lemon juice to descale my kettle (and shower heads), you can use plain vinegar but the taste/smell hangs about a bit and lemon is easier to live with.:D
(as an aside: they are both acetic acids, freshly squeezed lemon juice on fried eggs and chips is a tasty alternative to malt vinegar )

I have been work in the food Industry over 15 years and I think Vinegar has acetic acid and tartaric acid and lemons have citric acid and asorbic acid (vitamin c). Lactic acid found in milk will remove lime scale as well but I would go with citric acid it is the strongest out of the 3. ATB Jon

Thanks Rob and Jonni.

I started to clean it yesterday with vinegar after reading up on the net, no good. Tried lemon juice. Very, very slow but I knew it was going to be a long job. The missus bought some descaling spray yesterday afternoon and that is as good as a chocolate teapot. But today I had a brainwave, caustic soda !!. The last time I used caustic on an aluminum pan I made up the solution the wrong way, I added the water to the caustic and watched in amazement as the pan melted in front of my eyes !!.

I know you shouldn't use caustic on aluminum but I'm desperate . I made up a mildish solution and left it for a couple of hours, and hey presto, never even touched it. I am now back to using a cheapo Dremmel type tool which is taking it off very slowly.

Bummer Shepard! I been on the lookout for one locally for a while! Just gotta sort out my application form now and hopefully I will have a shotgun soon! What gun are you going for?

Also today I bought a shemagh as I've wanted one for ages, very impressed! Also picked up a pair of what I think are 58 pattern combats (have a NATO stock number but can't read the rest of the label!) for 1.99 and a nice stout stainless cook pot for 2 quid. Goat love charity shops!

58 pattern combats (have a NATO stock number but can't read the rest of the label!)

are they DPM and lined with a FFD pocket on the right thigh ? 58 pattern usually refers to webbing, I think the British Army were still in Battle Dress in 1958

Big T
14-09-2013, 07:49 PM
That's the ones! Yeach, got a pocket on the front of the right thigh and are lined! Any idea what they are mate?

Silverback
14-09-2013, 07:58 PM
Yup they are British Army DPM, exact date depends on pattern but basically DPM was rolled out on general issue circa 1968, there was a revision in 1972 I think, another in 1985..after that the trousers were unlined...

Big T
14-09-2013, 08:12 PM
Cheers mate, I was wondering what they were as hadn't seen any that has a pocket on the thigh! Have yet to try them on as there was no changing room in the shop but couldn't leave them there for 1.99!

The pocket was for a First Field Dressing reminiscent of battle dress trousers, there was a similar pocket for the same thing on the sleeve of the combat jackets too

The thing is a 3 layer membrane jacket, with a water column of 8000 and a breathing of 3000g according to the manufacturer.

Nice as my old one is starting to show signs of being past it's prime after 2 years og heavy use :-)

You cant......Its an airsoft RIF....

My son has taken up airsofting, hes only 13 so cant go without a parent or guardian and i didnt fancy the idea of running around with him without the means to fire back !! They arent toys though this fires .2g 6mm BB's at 350 fps after being detuned !! Some airsoft sniper rifles fire 8mm .5g bbs at 700 fps ! ......so like being shot with a 12ftlbs air rifle.

Darn sight cheaper and more exercise than these consoles, the folks that go are friendly and passionate about what they do, he gets to meet new folks, and i get to spend really enjoyable quality time with my lad...so I dont begrudge shelling out.

Cool, so you're happy with yours? Did you get it from same ebay seller I did? (link in my post).

I thought at that price its worth grabbing anyway, If I don't end up using it much or its poor quality it hasn't cost much.

I had mine for a year so I don't remeber who the seller was. But it's a good pice of kit, and hardly shows any signs of wear...and it's clocked 50+ trips into the woods :-)

It was, there were tent pegs, a couple of rubber mallets, an air pump, a single trekking pole and a junior sleeping bag left after I had had my rummage.

I've only been to the one over your way a couple of times and didn't see much gear in there, but worth popping your head in if you are passing. I do know the big one up in Poole has quite an extensive range gear and I've snagged a couple of bargains there before, so if I get a chance, I'll be popping up for a look in the next couple of days.

It isnt for every day camping bud ;)

I have a 70ltr SnugPak RocketPak for car camping (i.e not far to travel to camp) and a Osprey Exos 46 for hiking/camping.

However I got this vintage pack simply for more older/traditional style, like the Daniel Boon challenge (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102932) on BCUK. I want to have a go at camping for weekend with none of the more modern gear I'm used to so wont be taking all my little bits and pieces with me and thus the 40ltr will be ample. I obviously much prefer more modern gear but really want to do it for the experience and for fun ;)

Here's (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107467) copper_heads report from his challenge, Looks great. I'm going to be doing it in November :)
