Most of the companies that sell bushcraft gear have excellent after sales service. Give them a call and explain the problem. I'm sure they will replace it.

Also if it is damp and blackened, and hasn't been advertised as such, it is the sellers responsibility to pay for the return postage, whether he replaces it, or just refunds the original purchase and postage costs.

Like Chubbs says though, most bushcraft stores have great service these days, so it's worth contacting them and explaining the issue. Worth checking before you try to reproof it, as you don;t want to waste Fabsil if you don;t have to :)

There is a sale on quilts on the 21st at UKH but I decided getting this second hand was still a good deal since as delivery was included plus there would likely be a backlog and longer waiting list during the sale.

Military Mart, To be fair to them, they would have offered a replacement. However, I've ordered three times, never got an order correct and owe me a refund that was never processed. After all that I thought it best just to keep the damp tent, rather than risk losing my money completely.

I have ordered four times from them, each time they have been correct and on time, others to seem to have had problems so I guess they are a little inconsistent.....

I got one of them...that is mine is an M98. And it's only the reciever that is left of it. As it been re-drilled into a 30-06 and fitted with a hunting stock and barrel.
A lot of the 400 000 rifles the Germans kindly donated to us in 1945 ended up that way :-)

.30-06 ammo was more readilly available after the war as that was what the army was using in their M1 rifles. After the army switched to 7.62 NATO a lot of the Maussers where re-built for that caliber...
Cheap ammo, as the army sponsored the shooting clubs with ammo.

Wise decission. My brother worked in forestry in his younger years. He won't even let me near his chainsaw, as I don't have any protective clothing. And by the look of some of the Chainsaw trousers he have brought home after a near miss, I will never even try to discuss it...and it's nice to have him over doing the job for me, ha ha

Which stove are you planning on using the windshield on Adz? Have one of those myself, but it's no good for my little stoves. One is too low, which makes the shield heat up, and in turn heats up the top of the canister where it touches/clips on, and the F1 Lite throws the flame too wide, resulting in the same thing :(

I've seen a few people using the crux with the shield. Looks like a good little setup.
The stove I use mostly is the Alpkit Kraku. Has a good controllable output, and only weighs 35g. Fit's in the MSR Titan cup, with a Trangia burner, and heatproof disc too. Tiny little thing :)

A pair of Norwegian army wind proof canvas over mittens. Just need to find some wool mittens to go inside them :-)

Just had a look at my old army mittens. And this newer model is way better. The old ones only wen't midway up to my elbow, but these go all the way up to the elbow. And they are easier to put on as well. So I've changed the inner wool mittens over from the old to the new for now, as I beliieve the army has never changed them as something better has never been found.

The old pair I'll put some felted wool mittens my mom made for me into. That way I have a spare set :-)

In the pictures is old and new. You can see the trigger finger too :-)

Resently aquired that one, and I am happy so far. But glad I have my smaller kettle for whhen I just need a quick brew, as this one takes up a lot of space.
But on the ipside, it can be crammed full to choking with easily accessible goodies to stick in abrew, and that huge lid is a god send when you have to clean

Same as you, for a quick brew I would just take my Stanley pot, but I hear nothing but good things about this kettle and wanted to something to hang over a fire, which I've not done yet, just sat it on or next to the embers.

And very good they are too.
I have a pair.
I decided to test them. I put them on and stood in a bucket of water with them. Not a drop came through!
I thought this may mean my feet wouldn't breathe and would be uncomfortable. But not at all. I had them on all day, walking. My feet weren't sweaty (well, no more than one would expect) and no rubbing or anything.
I'm very impressed by Sealskinz and would heartily recommend them to anyone.

the sheath is real nice, well made, surprised that it come with it. It's a good sharp blade for stainless.

I'm unsure of the laws in UK regarding sharps, we frequently carried whatever we wanted through the woods, but then we never seen anyone.

In New Zealand, you can cycle through the town with an air rifle slung over your shoulder and nobody would care,

I haven't even been asked for ID once whilst buying knives/lighters/gas (I turned 18 in January), everyone seems to be more relaxed, but also more sensible here when it comes to that,

In the UK lock knives are a no no, as are fixed blades. The loop hole is though if you have a good excuse and the copper is in a good mood, you can get away with it, provided it's not in public. I've never been charged with any offensive weapon charges but I use the common sense approach. If it's at the bottom of a bag and you can't get to it easily, your not intending on shanking someone with it. The joys of living where you aren't trusted lol

I know people who have knives in their pocket every day, they aren't flashing it around & never have a problem.

I think in the rougher areas of London, Birmingham, Manchester etc you may have more of an issue. I have lived in Cornwall all my life till now, never seen a fight :) haha

Well it's a pretty simple idea take some waste pipe (2" stuff) solvent weld a stop end on one side at the other end use a universal stop end that way it's removable. wrap it in the real tree tape for added colour and so you don't have a glaring white tube attaches to your pack. Then down the side putt a strip off webbing and pop rivet it at 2" intervals. It's going to have 2 d rings so I can put a shoulder strap on it but it will literally fit any rucksack. I recon it will go together pretty fast.

hello,
Back in stock at Wilco stores camping gear. Bought a 2 pack 3 in 1 Can Opener (P-38 can opener, spoon, bottle opener, opposite of spoon end can be utilised as a screw driver too) made in China :( I've used the spoon as a tyre lever replacing a tyre on mountain bike strong enough before, not big enough for a T-spoon but still has it's uses, plus striker for Fire Stick. I'll post a photo when I've time.
Regards

I saw your post about this the other day and thought what a great idea. I had the worst nights sleep last week due to not hanging my hammock at the correct angle. I'm still pretty new to hammock camping and haven't even managed ten nights out in one yet so this might help.

It was a bad idea with the link to the store though, I could spend a fortune on it !!. Whats the shipping costs like Adz.

Point your index finger, and stick your thumb stright up. the angle of the imaginary line between the tip of your index finger and the tip of your thumb will be aprox 30 degrees, the correct angle for your hammock suspension :-)

......I had the worst nights sleep last week due to not hanging my hammock at the correct angle.......

The Breakfast Club have a special method that I know they will not mind me sharing. Basically, hang your hammock etc and set it up as normal but don't spend too much time on it. Next, sit yourself in front of the campfire and indulge in several large brandies, ports, red wine or all three. Repeat this until you don't really care how your hammock looks. Now carefully get into your hammock and enjoy a great night's sleep!

I feel your pain! When first started hammock'ing a few years back I found it impossible to get a good nights sleep. It really is just a case case of setup-config and setup-repetition.
Now I have my head end slighty lower to stop the "Heavy part of your body sliding to the middle" effect (yes its a real term) :ashamed:
Have a slightly shallow banana shape to the hammock, and get yourself an underblanket.
It realy is a case of getting used to it too, persistence overcomes resistance. :D

I like the idea about having the head slightly lower in the hammock, it makes real sense.

That's a great tip Rune, thankyou.

On this occasion I used a different suspension method. I normally use whoopie slings with no problem but there is still a small doubt in the back of my head that they will break under my svelt 18 stone frame.

I've used carabiners for some of my kit, but I find them better on the belt loops. My knife stays on my belt as the weight burst a belt loop fairly easy when I snagged it. The carabiners also tend to end up getting used elsewhere though. Usually the front of my rucksack holding something to it.

Helped my landlord shift som furniture in his storage shed. And he had a lot of skis in there. Walked away with a pair of Norwegian Army skis. The modern type wich is basically a pair of
carving skis with the old school ski bindings with a wire that goes behind the heel. Wich means that I can use them with a standard pair of Norwegian army boots, or the 75mm telemark boots, or cross country boots. And that I can pick up for next to nothing at a thrift shop :-)

If that was all Greek to you, Susanne will understand. Anyway they are quite wide and short. So make for easy turns and good for deep snow, and they are ready for skins too :-)

Looks like I made the bargain of the year with those skis I got for helping out the landlord :-)

With the help of a Norwegian outdoors forum I got them identified as a pair of Fischer E129 Tour S-Bound skis and they cost new 250£ and mine does not have any sign that they where ever used :-)

The bindings are a pair of Rottefella m98 NATO which is identical with the Rottefella Riva 1. Which is an old school 75mm ski boot binding that everyone on the Norwegian forums are raving about, but sadly for them is not produced anymore.

Anyway the thse are the words of the Norwegian importer: Fischer Europa 129 Tour has the same width and powerfull core as the Fischer Hunter skis, but with steel edges and a waxable sole. A favourite ammong hunters, ice fishers, the electric cable workers etc. The skis are also very good for down hill skiing.

All that gibberish tranlates to: I got myself a very good pair of bushcraft skis at the cost of some sore muscles :-)

Mine turned up today from the same place as well. Pretty study little thing considering how cheap it was. Gas down here is £3.45 for four. Can't try it yet, have run out of gas.

My Swedish LK70 backpack which I purchased last week is now looking good :happy-clapping:

Sanded and sprayed the frame first.
Then waxed the canvas.

It was easy to do using her hair dryer a small stiff bristled brush and a 400g jar of "Gold Label" waterproof wax (£6.99 off evil bay)
Used approx' 75% of jar to do the whole bag.
And I also used it on the leather parts which as you can see in the pic's brought back them back from the edge.
All I have left to do are the long straps.

AWESOME Skis....

Well done.

These are an absolute CLASSIC.
