I've always hated fishing but that looks interesting. Wonder if it's legal in the U.K. I doubt it, nothing fun is:ashamed:
Please don't quote any laws to me like in Bushcraftboy's 1st camp thread.

Like I know any of the laws over there......... here, to bowfish, you just need a fishing licence....... and can only take coarse fish as they call it, gar, carp, etc. Guess it's a reference to the scale size.

I remember watching Ray Mears, and he was spear fishing, which was illegal (he had to get special permission), but I have no idea about bow fishing. I would guess it's illegal, because bow hunting is.

Dunno, maybe because carp might be considered as pests and no known predator? Guess I'll have to look it up. Maybe they are just so ugly they are worth open season on.......... then again, turkeys, butt ugly, and one has to have a licence to hunt them...... I guess because they taste so good. :)

I got told off by eBay, for selling a US army respirator hood. The US DOD contacted eBay and ordered them to remove the listing, because of it being sensitive military equipment. I've had the hood for 15 years, surely it's outdated by such a margin, as to be useless to anyone trying to steal ideas...
Maybe hexi blocks fall into the same category :p

Whats your thoughts on this one? They say it is 'water resistant' but just wondering if from looking at it how resistant it is (I know its just a guess as its hard to say without trying). I am after something that is easier to use in the banshee as the one I have at the moment is only accessable from the top end so makes it very awkward to get in. Could also use as quick cover if the need arises depending on how good it is.

Had a bash with this now. Waterproof and warm (no frost but quite cold with heavy dew). i did fit one of the ultra thin insulating mats (as tipped here by someone!). The roll was in excellent condition with everything clean, no rips or stains and only one button missing (out of about 30 odd - easily rectified). Packs up well icluding the ins mat and i shall deffo be using more - for £17.00 including postage. Im 6 foot 2 and big built and there was plenty of room inside and easy in/out.

Decided that my new Paramo smock is just too nice for a weekend around the campfire and rough working so looked for something that I wouldn't mind getting bashed about a bit. After some searching around I came across this
http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/windproof-fleece-lined-traditional-style-smock-812-p.asp
Just had it delivered and first impressions are that its not a bad bit of kit for the money. Comfortable and warm, not too noisy when wearing and should stand up to the abuse its going to get so I will let you know how it gets on. Might not be to everyones taste as the inner fleece is fixed, probably not that breathable and only shower proof but I might try a treatment with Nicwax and see what happens but for me this is my bushcraft top and technical abilities are less important, I could always take it off if I get too warm after all.
Other items delivered - neoprene cocoon for my UCO lantern, 9 hour candles for the same and permanent match lighter. First class service from The Bushcraft Store, delivered next day as promised.
Just waiting for delivery number two :happy-clapping:

Delivery number two arrived!
With thanks from Backpackinglight for another speedy, as promised, next day delivery -
Nice and shiney Honey Stove. Was going to get as xmas pressie but couldn't wait so will have to ask for a hammock instead :D
Fold flat pack grill Enables me to use the Honey Stove to cook more than one thing at a time.
Evernew titanium trivet fits on the trangia meths stove.
With this new setup, and a couple of titanium pots that are next on the list, I should have a nice diverse and relatively lightweight cookset that will allow me to use wood where available or fall back onto meths when needed. I also have the option of using both with the new trivet and an ally windshield that I already have.
Nice touch from Backpackinglight - a card detailing their guarantee and returns policy with a handwritten note and a free pack of Skittles! I was just getting peckish. Very good service.
(Edit - the skittles are lovely :) )

Hey Sapper4083 , join the club !!! I often bike into a location , even an old heavy steel frame like your Apollo can save you hours of walking into a site !!!
Plus you really can carry a lot of gear on the bike . If I'm setting in an area and bimbling about for a while I use the bike bob
( a lightweight single wheel trailer that pivots in a frame behind the rear wheel ... Packs a 100 litres in a waterproof pack !!!)
then I can take the camp gear , a standard daypack and all the camera stuff ... Ezy Pzy !!!
Good luck with the bike , hope you enjoy it !!!

My girlfriend gave me a 3'x3' waterproof zippered bag to hold to a roof rack for my recent birthday, since there has been a few times I've been overloaded in the back with camping/fishing/drinking/survival gear and needed more roof to fit stuff, so this will work perfectly! Only $14.99 from a "you pull it off" salvage yard! Also going to get a new full sized spare tire off the same vehicle and mount it to the roof rack too, since my original spare is a different size and also rusted to **** because it sits under the arse of the truck. Nutshell, can't trust what I have.

Well, guess what showed up in the mail today... :happy-clapping: I have never bought a knife, designed just to get out in the woods and do the bushcrafting thing. I figured it would be hard to go to wrong because I could just sell it if things didn't go my way. (Many many many knife snobs I know are down on the entire bushcraft knife concept and with all of their hollow-ground knife elitist souls, hate the entire class of blades... So I was a little leary but sold knives and their pricing do not lie. Anyhow... ) The Bark River Aurora does not disapoint coming out of the box.

Hey thanks. I never really liked the look of Micarta but it feels good once it warms us, it's tough and stable and that shiney red just looks hard to lose. This seems to be key in my gear choices these days, given the number of items I have just 'donated' to the woods in my time out hunting and my apparently diminishing vision... :) Thanks again.

could you let us know what you think of the coat ? ive been looking at one myself.I've one and I can say it's a great coat. Very warm, totally waterproof. One thing though is that because the hood is a foldaway, you don't have a lot of head insulation.

an individual protection kit i ordered from a company who name is some combination of adventure and surplus which i ordered in july just arrived....forgot i even ordered it....
Well don't keep us in suspense, was it worth the wait.:D
It seems that quite a few shops have the product advertised, but not in stock.
Ordering online, I now email whatever shop - to ask if they have the item/s in stock. If no reply by the end of the day I try somewhere else.

The way it came packed...

With the holidays coming on, my weekends are just about shot for getting into the woods at all. I am hoping to get er in touch with some firewood or something this week. It littlerally hurts know it's just laying on the bench and I haven't done anything but shave a chunk of forearm.... Anyhow, Christmas on a Monday three weeks early is fun. Now to hide the credit card statement and burn some recipts....
Hey John, That is one sweet knife. It is my next BRKT. May it serve you well for many days to come. cheers

They are a nice little bit of kit. Bought one and used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago as a marker to show me the way back to me tent after I battled with the woodland spirits and won. They say the candles are 9 hour but I forgot to blow mine out and it was definately more than 9 hours when I found it in the morning.
Edit - the neoprene cocoon for the lantern is a good investment aswell

Yep, it's feckin' huge. Does mean that I can now lump everything together in the loft and not have to worry about wressling with the Hill pump when trying to extricate the vacuum cleaner out the cupboard. Or try and remember where the bloody allen key is for the scope mounts... Got a regular canvass bag for a single rifle. :)

They will be very bright for the first month or so, then they will seem dimmer. I bought one a while back. Not sure if it was the batteries starting to loose their umph, or me getting used to the brightness though lol. Quality bits of kit for the price though, and better than many other torches below at least a tenner.

Pics please, if you get a chance Jakob. Since my dad took up rebuilding old Coleman lanterns, I've gained
an interest in antique camping gear...

Will do. I am actually looking for an old green Coleman lantern. Care to trade for a few vintage knives?

Are Coleman lanterns hard to find in DK? Lots to be found here in antique shops & flea markets. Pretty sure I could find you a 1960's or 1970's
green one...after those years they seemed to get more cheaply built IMO.
Coleman has never been popular here. We have Primus, Optimus and Petromax, but those are very large and heavy.
Modern Coleman gear is available here, but it is very expensive.

I bought some Bear Grylls Craghopper trousers in TK Max for just £10!
Mind you, they do have Grylls' name on the pocket. But it's more subtle than it could have been. And by the time I go over it with a black marker pen it'll be even more subtle.
For a tenner though, you can't go wrong.

Well I know what I won't be buying. I've just looked on the Heinnie site. TAD gear. A soft shell jacket and a little day sack would set you back £720! Who the Hell buys this stuff? How often would you expect to see David and Victoria Beckham out in the woods for the weekend? I know Heinnie are only selling it at RRP but how does TAD justify this price?
