i think you would be better off getting one with legs and a flat lid so you can put coals on top and use it as an oven Bri. That said they are cheap enough by usual dutch oven standards!

These pots are great for stews and soups but for baking of any type there next to useless as thumbcrusher says for a few quid more you can get a standard 4 pint dutch oven and then you can evenly distribute the heat with coals and make cakes and bread that said if you only want a stew pot and are not intending to bake the pot your looking at is better for stews and soup as you have moisture recirculation from the domed lid so its a personal usage decision

The 4.25 litres pot as is advertised works out at 7.47 pints wouldnt bother with the others...also the ones with long legs are at risk of having the legs knocked off - now have to add that its never happened to me but I know several folks that exact thing has happened to and if you rate Sir Ray of Mears at all he says the same thing.

I think I paid in the 25 quid mark off evil bay for my 5L dutchie but mine has a lipped lid and small legs

Hard to tell what you're getting from the picture they supply. I think the image is of the 1L pot. I'd want to see the actual oven you're getting, before you go ahead with a purchase.
As Sapper says, the 4.5L are a good size. Legs aren't too much of a problem if you're careful, and come in handy if cooking without a tripod (lets air circulate beneath the pot, to feed the coals).
As long as it has a lip around the lid, to contain coals, then it should be fine :)

If it hasn't got a lip bri just turn the lid upside down

If it hasn't got a lip bri just turn the lid upside down

Then you need some very heat proof gloves to lift the lid off, to check how the contents are doing :p

Thanks for the replies lads, I will tell the wife what you have said as it was her posing as me asking the question !!!! - you see its my birthday on the 22nd and she
was planning to surprise me - But I have already ordered a tatonka 1.5ltr tea pot as I will probably get more use out of that when out on my own, as for a dutch oven yes I would like one
but I don't really need one - just yet its not long till crimbo
