I am looking for a mid length axe for the woods that is able to fit in my pack..
What do you own?
What would you buy if starting afresh?

Thank you...

You get wot you pay for,to my mind you cant beet the G B small forest,it's the rite size to fit in your pack & you can fell with it and if your edg is good enuff you can carve with it as well

I second that. Just saw the other day Dave Canterbury is now selling the Pathfinder tomahawk for $100US, hand forged head, etc. Reviews on youtube.

Why donīt you take a look at the Husqvarna axes, great value for a low priced axe.

I only have an steel generic axe from Do-It-All. It was festering in my shed for years. I cannot for the life of me get a decent edge on it. As a result i am looking for a new one and was as reccommended above was/am looking at the Husqvana here

Does anybody use one? Any good?

As long as you go for a handforged axehead with a hickory or ash handle, you can't really go wrong.

Aside from that; size, handling and aesthetics are entirely up to your own need and taste.

Many people favour the Granfors Small Forest Axe for a good allround axe - and for good reason. A similar, but lower priced, axe could be the Hultafors Classic Hunting Axe or the Wetterling Large Hunting Axe.

Thanks all for your input, i went and purchased the 'Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe' Ģ61.50 with free delivery, 20 year guarantee - if i'm still using it at 58 it will have been worth it anyway !
