No offence committed, it's just very easy to get carried away with the conversation going too far unless a hint is dropped otherwise. If anything most kids would find it hilarious but we have to consider all forum users and, has already been stated, some things are better said around the campfire where the conversation can be taken much further ;)

Right Ladies and gents, And Mama Pee Pee !!

As its recently become customary to include an evening meal for each nights camp, does anybody fancy something like a Spag Bol and Pasta for the first nights meal and a Beef Stew and Dumplings for the second night. I can include a veggi version for both meals for the non meat eaters so we are all catered for.

I would have thought that it will cost no more than £2.50 for each meal and I will make no profit from doing this apart from the enjoyment of cooking it for you all.

If interested please say whether it will be one night or both and I will start a list.

Just read the original post for this meet and I think only one night is planned. I want to do the Friday and Saturday if anybody fancies it, so post if you just want the meal for Friday or both

Scott

If I can make this one (fingers crossed) I'd like to have a bit more of a survival skills practice.
Last time, although it was awesome to sit by the fire supping cider and carving spoons I didn't practice too many skills, except getting the fire going again whilst everyone else was still asleep!!
This will be right before I have to teach my squadron up in Scotland too so if I can come if anyone is up for practicing/learning some stuff that would be cool!

Hi everyone. Right - it looks like Big T will be there Fri & Sat (I assume - we haven't actually talked about this yet!;)). I also assume Chris & everyone else is OK with me bringing Blue again, so me and the hound should be with you later on Friday after I've finished work & collected him. I'll see if I can wangle an early finish but not 100% hopeful on that one unfortunately.

Chubbs - I'd love to enjoy your culinary delights again on both nights - thank you.

Skills sound great - I don't really know very much at all (always left things like that to BigT) so it would be good to learn errr.... something?!

Can't do that! Someone has to look after the chickens ;) In all seriousness though, she doesn't travel well with the MS and the cold is not her best friend. I will keep an eye on progress and see if the timing is right, if not then there is always the next time.

Just seen the forecast for Sunday night, news is saying "80mph - hurricane winds" I'm thinking it's probably not wise to sleep in an ancient Beech woodland on a night like that, so I think I might stop there Sat night and then camp elsewhere Sun night, or just stay out for Sat/Sun.

For those of you who don't already know; Beech is prone to dropping large limbs ("widow-makers") in times of drought or high wind, also they have relatively shallow roots compared to many trees.

Good advice mate, being an arborist I was kinda thinking the same thing! I'm only staying Sat night to be on the safe side! Oh, don't forget the throwing axes! Jus - Campinggirl (Lyn) is now babysitting so won't be there! I'm planning to be there mid afternoon as I have to look at a job early afternoon..

Yep, despite the rain and blustery conditions, when the good folks from here get together we still manage to have a good time.

The wind initially wasn't a great problem but picked up strength when the rain came in. It also seemed to coincide with cooking dinner so a quick relocation of the camp to a slightly more sheltered position was in order. Thanks to Chubbs spare tarp and a quick raid of my van we had an impromptu shelter up in next to no time that kept the worst of the rain away for the rest of the evening.

Neils cooking was awesome. Having set up in the tree house, he got a chip pan on the go with a pot of curry sauce and got cooking with our dinner. This was accompanied with some lovely pork. I have never had chips cooked in the woods before and despite the conditions they were perfectly cooked.

Ashley testing the food

The rest of the evening consisted of a few drinks and plenty of laughs as normal, with a rather unusually early bed time for all. This is when a few of us had some interesting times with the wind roaring through the woods like a jet engine, and a few tarps needing a little securing again!

The next day started out clear with the odd shower threatening. Some folks left early so Ashley, Scott and myself took a little wander through the lower wood to see how things were looking since staying there last.

Ashley decided to cut some fire wood but got a little carried away!

10661

Then we found the old stump used for axe throwing. It has had so many axes thrown at it over the last few years, it has started sprouting them!

10662

This poor thing really is reaching the end of its days. The wood is so soft and waterlogged now the heads of the axes just disappear

10663

It will be a shame when it goes, as a wander around after I beat the Axe Throwing Champions :p showed how some irresponsible folk were using the mature and definitely live trees as targets for both axes and rifles. It gives me a rather unpleasant feeling inside when I see such things, but this is a commercial site and can't be watched all the time. There were a good few branches, as well as a couple of trees that had recently come down, and I suspect there will be a few more after last nights winds, but I still can't wait to get back there again. It is a lovely little wood and always has a friendly bunch of folks in there somewhere.

Until next time...

What is your sleep setup? I might have an idea for a little trip out if nothing else comes up. It will involve a couple of miles walk and finding a spot to pitch up that I have not visited before. Its on the South West Coast Path and I can PM a location if you are interested.

I may have just got permission on a local farm that has three small areas of woodland. Have asked for access for the Scouts which has had a preliminary YES pending a discussion on some do's and don'ts. After a chat with the farmer I wouldn't mind having an overnighter there if you are up for it Steve.
