Spent a few nights in the wood recently and as usual I backpacked the rations in first and cached them, it makes life a lot easier than hauling a heavy load in one trek. Just out of interest I weighed the 'main meals' which doesn't include all the breakfast porridge, tea/sugar and goodies or even the packets of Naan bread etc: that I use to bulk out the main meals. For the nine days in the wood the main meals alone weighed a fraction under 3 kilos.

There is a sense of summers end in the wood, still plenty of leaf canopy but it is falling steadily now. Each gust of wind brought showers of leaves and the woodland floor has a new carpet beginning..

The Ferns are dying back and the dry summer has left the stream which runs so busily in the winter, empty and still.

The seasonal Fungi are making their appearance and many trees have gold at their feet.

I found the light was going in the wood by about 7pm and I was glad of the 3 season sleeping bag, but the days were still warm and the wood filled with sunlight.

It seems I timed it about right because as I sit typing this the rain is falling heavily on the deck of my boat, but it's warm here and brew time.. ;)
