I bought myself a pair of Seal Skinz a couple of weeks back.
I even did the test - stood in a bucket of water in them. And not a drop came through! Which is very impressive.
However, this ability to keep water out makes me think that they probably don't let your feet breath out too well.

So, my question is, has anyone worn Seal Skinz for an extended period? Say, several hours?
How were your feet afterwards?

This weekend I will be out for a walk about 10 miles long, and I expect the ground to be marshy and boggy...

I have something similar and I just give them a good "powdering" with talc before putting them on. Then after taking them off, I turn them inside out and give them a good shake and leave them inside out till I use them again.... Hope this helps..... Cheers Ian....

Yes, I suspected they may be like that.
I suppose there's only one way to find out - spend a day inside them!
I've had them on, and I thought they felt comfy enough, but I did wonder how sweaty the feet may get if the sweat can't get out. I'll wear them and see what it's like. Must remember to put a pair of liner socks on first.

There's no denying their water-repellancy though. Like I say, I stood in a bucket of water in just the socks and no wetness, nor even dampness, came through. Very impressive in that regard.

I love mine. I tend not to use them with a liner/inner and my feet are fine after and dryer than if I use normal walking socks.

Dont get me wrong, they may be fine for you...I dont even get on with boots with waterproof linings and trying to find non GTX is a nightmare, I must just have very sweaty plates.....Mind you living and walking in the Dark boggy part of the Peak District my boots have always fared very well despite not being waterproof.

I use them for winter kayaking and find them great for the job, several hours fishing no problem. however I am not walking in them and not getting hot either.

I have owned a couple of pairs and love them, but please understand I only wear them on a motorbike and not for walking, sweaty feet not a problem on a cold wet bike, but one of my pairs I wore for one walk and the did not wear very well, rubbed almost through on the heals, great but not for active use, hope this is useful

I use them all the time for winter mountain biking and never had a problem with sweaty feet. Sometimes have them on all day and never had any issues. That said i guess feet aren't moving in the shoe quite as much biking compared to walking. Worst problem i find is washing them cos the water doesn't come out very quick so you need to keep turning them inside out and back again especially to get them dry. Another thing to remember is don't dry them on a radiator as they shrink as i found out to my cost!. :ashamed:

Used to wear mine on cycle commute to work when weather was wet 40 - 50 min each way ,

depending which way the wind was blowing , never noticed any adverse effects wearing 'em for an hour or so ...

but wore them on a drizzly all day through Breccon Beacons , lots of puddles and muddy hike a bike sections ,

and like Sapper said , they ripped my feet to pieces !!! Skin all white , wrinkled and sloughing off in sheets like blisters !!!

Never worn'em since ...

Though as Humakt said ... they do keep the water out ... problem is they keep it in too !!! lol !!!

Cheers Whistle

They are not for everyone, but the only way you will find out how your feet react to them is to try them. I swear by them, I wore mine all day Saturday and Sunday while on our Natures Larder course. Walked for miles and never had a problem, although I never wear them in the summer months as my feet would definitely sweat and experience the same problems others have had. I always carry some foot pounder with me to treat my feet before bed and put on some dry socks if cold, its always served me well when wearing seal skins.

Well. I wore my seal skinz today.
I went for a leisurely 5 mile stroll.
My feet came out perfect. No problems at all. No chaffing, no sweating, no coldness. Nothing. Just like wearing a normal pair of socks.
That said, all I was wearing were a pair of regular non-waterproof walking shoes (so I suppose any sweat could have risen?), not boots, no goretex foot wear, and the walk was an easy one.
But my feet were fine, just like wearing a normal pair of socks. So I'm feeling a lot better about wearing them at the weekend now. If all goes well (and I think it will) then I'll have to fall in love with my new socks!
