I went for a walk to one of my regular camp spots today and when I got there this fella was cruising about the place. This guy is about 2 meters long and as you can see, it isn't a bit bothered by me.

It's a Lace Monitor (Varanus Varius) and when they get to this size they can be a bit of a camp pest. Still very cool to have them around though

That is definitely cool.:)
I used to love watching gecko's in my house and various lizards in the olive groves but we never had anything bigger than that chaps foot :D

Yeah, this guy would eat geckos for breakfast. We don't get geckos down here which is a shame, they are good to keep mozzie numbers down.

Just watching that made me laugh..:) If something like that wandered into a British campsite the results would definitely be worth filming..;)

Where I live, you'd know exactly where to find it because the locals would be running around in circles and screaming at the top of their lungs :D.
T^ Very cool, Phrayzar :).

This is another vid that shows just how brash these guys can get. If you stay still long enough, they seem to just not see you anymore. They are also quite delicious. They are, like all Australian native animals, protected. But if you are with an indigenous person, they are permitted to kill for consumption. The bird is a bush turkey, extremely common bird round here.
