I have most of the weekend off and I am off out next weekend for a camp so thought I would make a start on a shelter to sleep in.
Its a simple lean to which will be big enough for me and the boys to get under, it still needs a bit of work to finish next weekend but there will be more of out there to get it done.

When I got home I took off my boots and socks to give my sweaty feet an airing (sorry about the mental picture!) and my youngest Jenson knocked over the sowing box. Moments later I went to stand up and felt a stabbing pain in my toe, then a sudden moment of disbelief as I saw a sowing needle through my toe! I duely took the obligitory photo and posted to Twitter and Facebook! I then tried to pull it out, it wasn't budging and was rather painful too.....

So i made my way to A&E (slowly) were the NHS did an amazing job, they XRay'd my foot to make sure it hadn't broken up inside my toe then a doctor pulled it out with a larger pair of forceps! I have to say it hurt like hell coming out but the pain was short lived and today I am walking with a limp, but all is well.

So I think I have heard all the jokes from Twitter, Facebook and work colleagues. But have a go and see if we can have a laugh about it....

"I bet you felt a right PR**K?"
"You were stitched up there!"

Im just glad it wasn't a knitting needle!

Ive got a weekend of shelter building with my son this weekend. Not gonna be staying in it over night but going to build it out the way so we can return to it when ever.

Your shelter building skills look spot on but your sewing sucks :-)

Ouch....

Quick tip for your shelter. If you can trim the tops of your poles to the same length and ensure you cover them completely. Otherwise rain wil run down the poles under the thatch material. Otherwise it looks awesome. Love building shelters with my kids. Tend to do one with them every year with the new leaf fall.

Good point about the pole lengths, they were trimmed down after the last photo was taken and will be trimmed further once the thatch has been finished.

I didn't take it like that at all, good points are always well recieved. And others may not know this could happen and make the shelter the same as in the pictures. Valid points well raised, cheers :mad2:

I think you are very brave putting up with all those people needling you over this

I think your lad stitched you up, tipping them on the floor

Should have left it in, then magnatised it and from then on your foot would always point north, sort of Cyber-Compass

These reply's are excellent, had me rolling :happy-clapping:
It's almost been worth the pain for the laughs, had some great reactions from people at work when I have showed them the pic. Seeing the penny drop in their faces as they realise what they are looking at, priceless!

Inspired by Stamp. Thought I'd go out and build a new shelter for the the kids to play in over winter.

Hopefully pics will show up alright as it's a bit dark out.

Ouch! just seen this post, that looks painful. Pity it's not summer you could have got a job with the local council, walking round the local park barefoot picking up litter.. :)

Had me thinking of the tirade Leo Getz lets forth in one of the Lethal Weapon films about how hospitals ***** you over.

"First they pull one out of you then they stick you with another" (paraphrased)

Nice shelter though.
