Ray Mears presentation.

Went to 'An evening with Ray Mears'. Started at 19.30 hrs 'till 21.00 then a short break, part 2 and ended approx. 22.30Hrs. I could happily have listened for another 3 hours..:) A bit of everything really, Bushcraft/ Survival, animal behaviour, tracking etc: and overall an appreciation of Nature and need for conservation.

Seems a very non celebrity " Look at me" type of person, he's happy to shift the spotlight onto ordinary people doing conservation work and he's quite funny too. Highly recommended if you can get to a session. :)

Agree with everything you said Saxonaxe! I went last wednesday and thoroughly enjoyed it! I liked how it started with the backdrop of the lake with him paddling out of the mist towards the audience and then.... well wont spoil it for others who haven't been yet.

I have tickets for me and the guys at Natures Craft on Friday, I'm a little worried that my son Owen (aged 10) will get bored? I really hope not but its a long time to keep his attention. What do the guys think that have already been? Should I be worried?

Stamp, to reply to your question, my mate and his 9 year old Grandaughter were with me last night. At a guess I would say she was probably the youngest nipper there although there were a few lads under 12 I would think. Little 'un is a 'Scout' and is totally immersed in outdoors/wildlife/Bushcraft. Even so, the last half hour was a struggle for her to sit still...mind you, when she was sitting down her feet didn't reach the deck and she wanted to stand up. Plus she was tired after a swimming Gala during the day. ( 1 first and two 3rds against bigger opposition...:) )

Afterwards I asked her what she thought, 'Brilliant, he's really interesting" was the reply and then she promply fell asleep on the back seat of my mates car.. ;)

Cheers, I think the last hour will be tuff for him. He's not used to late nights, might have to introduce him to coffee, redbull and proplus! :zombie-fighting:

There were quite a few young kids at the show i saw. one lad nearby cant have been more than 7 or 8 and he was transfixed for the whole show and clearly enjoyed it all. I was really surprised at the age range of people in the audience.

Well I wasn't disapointed, we went to Ray Mears talk last night and it was really good. My son Owen was captivated the whole evening (and at 10 yrs old thats an achievement) and he even tried to answer a question about a track in the sand, "No but good guess" Ray said. After we got in a very long que for an autograph, which only took 20 mins to get to. Ray instantly realised Owen had tried to answer the question and after a little chat he signed our books, shook our hands and then Owen held his hand up for a high five! Ray did one of his trade mark chuckles and duely gave him a high five, he seemed genuinely happy to be there and we had a photo taken too. I will post it later as its on my friends phone.

Thats one memory he will not forget in a long time, and gives these kids the inspiration to get out there. A good role model I think.

Went to see Ray Mears in Derby last night. Really enjoyable and informative show. Refreshing that there wasn't lots of self promotion and hype - he comes across as a genuine and committed individual. Started at 7.30 and went on to nearly 11pm. Fab pictures. A really good night.
