Looks like its swung a bit further North than expected judging by the fact my fence has just blown down and we have had hail the size of 5p bits - mind you at least Im tucked up warm at home and retired from the rescue business now

I am spending tomorrow stropping the yurt down better. The worst is supposed to be coming sunday/monday.
Sounds like you are getting it early chap..

I must say, I do enjoy a good storm.
Thunder, lightning, hail, cats and dogs living together - let utter madness reign!

Might be a good time to go for a walk along the coast and watch the storm out across the sea...

Change of plan for me I think, I was off to the wood on Monday to camp out during Samhain, but living the way I do means my home will be a lively and rather unstable place to be if this coming storm lives up to the forecast. I've doubled up her mooring ropes and lashed everything down and the tides are small Neaps so that's a bonus. Quite well protected here on the river and we've been through plenty of storms before, sometimes far from land, so this one shouldn't be a problem. :D

Hello to those who joined the forum while I was reefing top'sls and battening hatches.. ahh arggh!..been busy. ;)

Hopefully some fences will blow down in my neck of the woods, will be good for business! Lol!

Change of plan for me I think, I was off to the wood on Monday to camp out during Samhain,

snap, although were celebrating samhain a couple of days late, by camping sat to sun, thankfully we have a marquee and log burner if the weather turns nasty, lots of games planned and everyone has to turn up dressed as an animal of the woods, should make for some interesting video's,lol

just strapped up the bee hive just in case, don't want my girls getting blown over

Getting a wee bit of weather are you?

There's a deep low coming in from the West, Rune. I've been watching it on the sailing weather website ( http://www.passageweather.com/mobi/natlantic.htm ) The winds have been at 50 knots plus for a few days, it's centre is still offshore but Sunday/Monday could be a bit breezy in the Uk...:o

I use passage weather.com quite a lot when going to sea and usually it's pretty accurate.

Vetrnætr was ten days ago mate...

Widely recognised that historically it happened later here in the UK becouse of the more Southerly aspect

Just driven from the peaks to Swindon with the van on the back, not a lot of difference in the conditions to be honest. Wet, windy and nutter drives cutting me up and driving too close to each other.

I'm sure all our members, especially the ones further South, will be taking all precautions necessary.
Stay safe guys and gals.

Must be on it's way East to me then Jonny. It's been blowing off and on all day, 7 to 8 ish with the occasional gust to 9 but nothing unusal for this time of the year along the coast. A youngster ( 14 years) has been lost off the local beach, he was 'wave dodging' with a mate and got caught by a big sea. An area search by helio and RNLI in tough conditions with wind against tide has failed to find him I'm sorry to say.
High tide is 06.15 hrs so I'm sitting with my keel in the mud and steady as a rock (so far)... Wind is SSW about 6 with very heavy rain but at the moment things look about average for the season...but I'm not counting my chickens just yet..:D

Take care John, Had a good weekend with the lads at Denbigh. Weather wasn't too bad but a good few didn't turn up. Keep them lines tight, ATVB. Ken

I'm guessing for some, the worst has past and for others it's at the peak.
Reports of 93 mph gusts on the Isle of Wight!!!!
Hope saxonaxe is ok on the boat.
Be careful out there,

Didn't come to much here. The rain is probably the worst bit but used to that anyway.

A busy night..:D I turned in about midnight, the wind was backing Southerly and only at about force 8 in the gusts at that time but I knew worse was to come. Laying on my bunk fully clothed (just as well !) I awoke about 04.00 hrs with the wind shrieking in the rigging and the boat just lifted on the tide, bouncing against the jetty. Wind was now 9 to 10 with horizontal rain and before first light I heard shouting. Long story of a struggle in the dark to save other people's boats, pontoons breaking adrift. I'll let the photos speak..Taken when life was a bit quieter after daybreak...:D

I live comfortably and happily off grid, but have to make sure that I take care of my gear...Like stowing my solar panel and lashing my wind generator when the wind gets too strong...these whirlygigs have been known to self destruct in very strong winds...:D

The sun is out and the wind is dieing away, life is good and it's brew and bacon sarnie time I think..;)

(Ken all is well with your boat..PM inbound mate.)

Good to know you are ok saxonaxe and others who have posted.
It seems there have been at least 4 deaths related to the storm, a sobering thought.

I didn't make it chap. We bought one in the end.. I do need to sort this one though, they used softwood for the roof poles, n I don't like that..
