Thought I'd share a pic of my latest endeavour. An all natural bow drill set. Lime bark cordage, Hazel bow, Hazel spindle, lime hearth and limpet shell block.

Will try and get some pics of it in use in a more bushy environment.

Well managed three embers before it broke.:( Lessons Learnt - need thicker cordage, perhaps turn the two ply I had into three. Also less vigorous bow technique and a little more patience. Will make a new bigger cord and try again.

I can't make it to the next meet, but I wish I could; I'm really impressed with your cordage.

brilliant stuff T^
i dont think you get that many goes using natural cordage before it gives up. I've currently got nettle cordage on my bow,its done 3 fires but seriously doubt it wil survive another go.

Sorry SpiderVetch,

Not been online for quite a while and when I have it has been via my Phone, missed this.

A good set of tutorials for cordage can be found here :-

http://www.jonsbushcraft.com/cordage%20making.htm

Check out some of his other tutorials too. His site is great.

Would nettle cordage be strong enough ?

Should be as long as you take the time to prep it correctly and make it thick enough. Rather than make it thick straight off. Make thinner 2-ply stands and plat them together.
