View Full Version : customized axe handle
got fed up with the feel of the handle on my axe, after doing some work on the head i thought the handle needed some attention, its a hickory handle that was lacquered with a clear coat varnish type stuff that was not to good, so i sanded that off and used a nice wax to seal it up but felt it still needed some thing else
so the first attempt at some Celtic style knot work came out like this, still not waxed it yet as need to do something on the other side.

Looks great, can't wait to it all finished
Well done
wont be too long a wait, just a bit stuck for ideas now though, not sure if i should mirror what i have on the other side or do something completely different, will more than likely be next weekend that i finish it off.
cheers

I kinda think it would suit the same on the other side as well, then when you do think of an other design you can use it on mine 😄👍
Lovely. First time I've seen carvings on an Axe handle.

Terrific, you could always do a 3 strand plait on the other side, and burn your initials in, cheers Ian.....

T^ That's brilliant! I bet it adds a bit of grip, too ;).
cheers guys, its not too bad needs a going over again just to tidy up the relieved bits, it does add rather alot of grip in the hand but have not used it properly since the carving was added, so i can cant tell you if its a practical addition or not as of yet, might get a few good blisters from the edges of the carving though, should be fun.
i'll have to let you know what its like to use after my next outing
cheers
