Hi guys n gals. Is denim from jeans any good for making char cloth from?

Yep, it works well, just make sure there's no residue from soap powder left on it as this can hinder its effectiveness

As above.
I've used denim for years and it works well. But be careful of the fumes when charring it due to the chemicals used in the dyeing and bleaching process.

cheers chaps, I've got an old pair I (the mrs) was about to throw in the bin. I know what I'm doing tomorrow. lol
make sure its proper chard, did a large batch the other day and the outer bits were great but more towards the middle was still a bit hard and did not char up great

Reminds me I am completely out. I have chaga but char cloth is easier to catch a spark with :-)
The fantastic part is that I have a tin loaded with cloth ready to be charred in my fire kit, but never remember to stick it in the fire
for charring when I have one going!

I was presented with a tin and a small roll of char cloth at the last meeting at Denbigh by Garry (bushratty) so I now have no excuses - will have a go at making some in the next few days.
