I've got my self a decent knife blank and I'm going to put a handle on it.
The wood I'm using is curly birch (similar to this http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/cross-cut-curly-birch---super-grade-6745-p.asp)
So now for the questions...
Do I need to use liners to get the wood to stick if so can anyone recommend colour?
Also what oil should I use to compliment the curly birch?
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, I use liners usually made of "high impact plastic" with 2 part epoxy resin and brass pins, as regards the colour that is entirely personal preference, but I would go for a bright green or bright blue liner, but it really is a personal thing. As for oil I use either danish oil or tung oil, and have had good results with both, but I have recently got some gun stock oil put I haven't used it yet. hope this has helped.............. Cheers Ian....

Cheers Ian just the kind of response I'm after! Think I've got some tung oil in the garage :) we'll I was thinking a bright blue liner myself so might have just made my mind up there :)
Can't wait to get started and see how it turns out :)
I'm on with the under quilt tonight so il let you know when it's finished :)

They use several types of plastic sheet for vacuum forming, but it's the polystyrene one that is the same as the hi-impact plastic. Often call HIPS, which stands for Hi Impact Polystyrene Sheet :)

so guys what do you think...
curly birch with blue liner handle treated tung oil (very generously supplied by ian) and then a good polish to finish.
