ebay lightweight tarp

Hi all,
Has anyone bought something like this from ebay?

I know its not going to be bomb proof but as I will only use it a few times a year max, and in hopefully reasonable weather, I am hoping it will keep the odd drop of rain and the wind off. Any opinions? This would be used with a sleeping bag and allegedly waterproof bivi bag.

I use one exactly the same (Bought it direct from http://www.outdoorvalue.co.uk/ ) I use mine not as a tarp but under the tent to save the tent floor getting too muddy. You might find it's a bit 'crackly noisey' if it flaps in the wind, but they're really tough and will be fine for what you want, without having to rob a bank to buy a posh one. :)

I have one also and have used it bungeed to my bike as a lean to type thing. Its ok. I tried it with my polish lavvu too as a groundsheet for half the tent but eventually bought an IPK for about a tenner and a grommet kit for pegging.

Yeh But I use mine as a mat/groundsheet under my tarp to keep my kit off the floor and to stand on when I get dressed and undressed. they are fair quality but as Sax says they are crackly.

I have the larger one and have used it loads. At the moment its in the back garden covering chopped firewood and its still in one piece.

Got a small 1.5 x 2m one for a sit mat and quick shelter if caught out in a shower walking attached to my day bag, also used a large one for a shelter over a picnic table,
only draw back is that the eyelets rip out, but I use a tarp grip thingy for support instead and they are fine, bit noisy for sleeping under
( extremely waterproof where some nylon tarps do actually pass fine spray through )

I've been looking at those for a while. A lot of them are advertised as covers for market stalls and they come in quite heavy weights.

They do look good for a night under the stars though.

They work fine.

You can get them with one side 'silver' which will help reflect heat back at you if you use the bigger ones for shelter building.

Thanks everyone. I will get an IPK I think. I may fix some loops on the corners and centres with some leather rivets as I have seen others do on youtube. I will keep the other tarp in mind if I need a groundsheet or a general tarp for home.

Where from, they seem to have gone up in price these days plus they are small and limited in usage.

Johnsons in leeds. From the store but they also sell online. Seem big enough to me as a groundsheet. Was contemplating cutting mine in two.

Same here, I use mine as ground sheet under tarp to keep gear off floor.

Got an EDC hammock from UKHammocks on the way now though so going to see how I get on with that for a gear loft.

You can get them on ebay for a tenner including postage, and I am sure they would be around £5 from a high street surplus shop etc.

I think the main limiting factor to these is the lack of eyelets or loops etc but I can soon rectify that. I wanted a micro tarp originally so this is actually much larger than I originally had in mind, again I can rectify that if I decide to. I have looked off and on for ages for an inexpensive micro tarp and I had someone on another forum offer to make me one, that failed to materialize. The IPK is made from the kind of thin and lightweight fabric I had in mind, I will just have to work on it a bit.
